Good assumption:
Old Market eatery Vivace has been sold, will close in early 2015
Bartholomew said the restaurant will serve Vivace favorites through the end of the year to give people a chance to eat there one more time. He didn’t want to elaborate much on what will take the place of Vivace, but it will be a new concept, he said. He expects the restaurant will be closed for a few weeks to a month to complete a full remodel.

“It will be a new interior,” he said. “Something modern, classy and very downtown Omaha.”

This is a little heartbreaking for me. I've had a lot of good food and fun memories there. Whatever takes over has big shoes to fill.

I trust Nick Bartholomew, to open up something that would fit the Old Market well, with a lot of local flavor to it. Sorry to hear Vivace is closing (maybe we need a Forum Meet there before it closes) but excited to see what Nick will create!

Vivace to close

In the OWH today. New owners, new concept. Stays Vivace until the new year. Used to really love this place, but the food has not kept pace with the competition.

I think it is going to be the same owners of Over Easy but not the same concept.

There is a discussion over at the New Restaurant Rumors thread. Vivace's cook left and so they decided their run was over and Nick Bartholomew was offered the place first.

Must have missed that. That's why I hate those catch all threads where everything is mixed together.

This is the thread for that location, someone should post that info here.

This thread didn't start until after the rumors were reported and confirmed in the previous thread.

Heard from someone who gets their hair done at the salon across the street from this place the replacement will be called "The Sunnyside Diner." I hope that's not true...

It's going to be a dinner restaurant with 2 patios and modern design.

Trust me when I say it will not be called 'the Sunnyside anything'

Oh those hairdressers.

Don't push the start gate button just yet... The second patio is around the back and it is 8 steps north of M's patio. It is a raised 500 ft porch that has never been used...except for the staffs breaks. Now will be retro fitted with windows and made into a 4 seasons patio. The first downtown.

Sounds classy. I'm going to make several excuses to eat at this place as many times as possible before it closes.

We had dinner there Saturday. Celebrating a friend's birthday. I absolutely love the ambiance of the place. However the food was, as usual, wildly uneven. My salmon was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the apricot, spinach, tomato and wild rice accompaniments were truly ambrosial. However my husband's carbonara was terrible. He barely touched it, and in response to his complaining that it was a poor excuse for pasta carbonara the waiter simply responded "well, that's the way our chef likes to prepare it. It's his take on the dish." No egg, and very little pasta. This is why the place is closing.
I wish the new place success.

The variance in their menu has been a weak spot there for years. I have basically started to avoid restaurants like this and restaurants that cook odd combos and call them their take on a classic dish. If I want Italian sausage, I don't want Jimmy Dean's breakfast sausage because the chef thinks its cool.

Downtown needs a place that brings a spark of life to the market. Jake is a money partner. Nick is the sole owner.

From the World Herald:
The Market House is the name of the Old Market’s newest restaurant.
Co-owner Nick Bartholomew is hoping the restaurant, which is taking over the former Vivace space, will open in late spring. The name, which Bartholomew said chef Matt Moser came up with, is tied to Omaha history. The Market House was a fresh produce outlet on Capitol Avenue that stretched from 12th to 14th Streets in the 1890s. The Market House closed in the early 1900s and eventually was replaced by the Old Market.
The Vivace space has been retooled, Bartholomew said, and the main remaining feature of the space is its original brick. The dining room has been elevated and separated from the bar area, and in the front, a six-person horseshoe-shaped booth has been enclosed as a private dining space.Bartholomew said the food will be divided into sections like snacks, small plates, shared plates and individual plates.

The word on the street is that Ben Maides head chef of Avoli in Dundee is leaving to become Chef dé Cuisine at The Market House. If this is true Omaha may have their first James Beard award very soon. Potentially, huge news in Omaha food.
Cannot wait for downtown to buzz again.

Noticed the new sign (where the old Vivace sign was) is up. Still looks like they have some work to do on the inside.

From everything I've heard it's taking a lot longer than they thought originally to get this place going.

I can't comprehend why it takes more than 5 months to take an existing gorgeous restaurant, with an existing full restaurant kitchen, and an existing patio, and to put a new name up on the front door and reopen the place before the the start of the all important summer restaurant season. I mean, plans were announced last fall. This isn't the plans for D-Day. They really are overthinking this whole thing.

Walked by again today...doesn't look like they will open any time in the next week. They pulled their "menu" sign down that said opening in late May. Can't understand what is taking so long. Hopefully, for their sake, they open in time for the CWS, which starts on June 13.
