Grisanti's Omaha - closed

Post by Ben »

For about the last week, they've had a sign on their door "closed for an emergency", but rumor has it that they're out of money and closed for good...

Wonder what would go well there? Close to a lot of stuff, but sort of hard to get to...

I remember going to Grisanti's for some dances in high school. I thought it was very similar to Olive Garden but better. I hope they are not closing for good.

Sad. I worked there for 3 years. Met some great people during that time and had a lot of fun.

Business had decided over the years. Used to be packed with a wait list. The last two times I was there I was seated right away with only a half full house.

I always thought Grisanti's was a national chain, but it turns out the only ones left are here in Omaha and Lincoln.

The Journal-Star reports that it will reopen in a few days.

I can't remember for sure, but I think they got near 35 restaurants at their peak. I worked at the one in Omaha when they went from 3 to 2, which was about 10 years ago.

It looks like their quality has dropped quite a lot in the last few years based on the reviews on urbanspoon.

Ate there about a year ago. The food didn't taste bad, but did have a blah generic quality. Very few people in the restaurant. Compared to other places in town, the meal just wasn't good enough to make us want to come back.

End of an era: Grisanti's contents to be auctioned
MATT OLBERDING - Lincoln Journal Star wrote:Then in December, Ameritas Life Insurance, owner of the building at 6820 O St. that has housed Grisanti's for the past 27 years, filed a lawsuit to force it to vacate the property, saying it owed more than $26,000 in unpaid rent.

Now, a chapter in the city's dining history is coming to an end. The contents of both the Lincoln and Omaha Grisanti's will be auctioned toward the end of the month, and just about everything will be sold to help pay creditors.

Tried going there Friday and noticed they were closed. It's too bad - I really loved their bread.

Lol... Its really easy. Fill up a tub full of liquid butter, add a bunch of garlic salt, and then dunk the whole loaf of bread in it. Then warm that butter soaked bread in the oven. I always wonder how many people would actually eat that bread if they ever watched them make it...

Not sure if that was more unhealthy or the creamy tomato soup everyone got...

I recently found out how bad the bread at Charleston's is...

Lets just say you almost get a day's worth of calories in one of those things.

The croissant looking things (er, well, their version of them)? If so, I don't care...they're so, so good.

Traditional French croissants are basically butter with dough formed around it.

Someone has a good memory. Yes it was.
Do you recall I think it was Monterrey, off of 89th and Dodge? The first of what I will call new style Mexican places in Omaha.

Not really, We had a couple that were regulars at Grisanti's and they always told everyone that they had been regulars since it was Acapulco's. I don't remember the place at all.

It was in the same building as the Golden Apple, next to the super cool building that housed the House of Cathay and House of Genji. That building was torn down for parking. The Golden Apple building is now medical offices.

I wonder if anyhing could even go there and use the theme type decor of the building. I wouldn't be surprised I see t come down in favor of a couple quick casual lunch type places maybe.

I drive by the former Grisanti's location daily.... There have been people touring it, perhaps to purchase? --- Now there is a large dumpster on the West side and workers inside. My guess...a mexican retaurant or something not requiring too much change.

When I was a bartender at Grisanti's there was a couple that came on a couple times a month that had been coming in since it was Acapulco's

I drive by every day sine I work in the area. Other than the dumpster, I haven't seen much.

Now there are two large dumpsters in front of the building. Large enough that you may find a building permit for this address…

The building was purchased October '15 by Kennedy Legacy 108... Permits were pulled listing property use as "Salon Suites" as stated in this string. They are doing a lot of demo to the front step/former patio area. Looks like a lot of remodeling happening inside.

The concrete cutting trucks have been over there a lot. It was nothing but rams and stairs all over in there. I'm assuming they are trying to flatten it out somewhat...
