Access Bank (Former Amato's Lot)

Access Bank (Former Amato's Lot) 67th and Center

Tried out another Dive today at Amato's. The place is a lot smaller that I expected, although the east side looks like it is rarely used except for overflow. Tried the Mistake Omelet and it was good for what it is. I'd have to try something else to really decide what I think of this place.

Good, but not great food. ร‚ย If I was in the area, I would go more, but I wouldn't drive across town for it.

They are getting a liquor license and expanding hours when Baxter Arena opens.

Closing June 23.
After more than four decades serving Omahans, the owners of the restaurant Amatoโ€™s Cafe & Catering have announced they are closing the doors.

The last day of business will be June 23.

Amatoโ€™s will be open from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through June 23.

True. It is a prime spot in the aksarben area. Do you all think it will continue as a restaurant? Or is it going down for additional development?

Too small of a lot for development, unless the could grab Rainbow Recording, which would take a lot more money..

Iโ€™ve had the sense the place never quite had the same โ€œvibeโ€ after Mr. Amato passed..

For whatever their reason, Iโ€™m sad to see another local Omaha spot Iโ€™ve grown up with close its doors...

True. I read about the rainbow recording studio. The owner is not going to sell. It's a neat establishment.

Plenty of room there. Last I heard it will be scraped and a current Omaha business will be building an additional location on that lot.

Feels like the size of a lot where either fast food or a small bar and grill type place would go in. Not enough room for much else.

Iโ€™m not surprised. The one time I was in there, the building didnโ€™t seem like it was in the greatest shape.

Scooter's drivethru? The closest one is a whole block away, they need to hop on that spot!

More seriously, wonder if Crane will move from down at 60th?

I've never eaten at any of these three traditional Omaha restaurants that are closing nowadays -- including this one. I feel like I missed out.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

We once ate at Amatoโ€™s, and were given clearly dirty silverware. The fork had dried egg or something stuck between the tines. When it was brought to the attention of our waitress she took the fork, wrapped her blouse around it and rubbed it dry, then handed it back to us.
We never returned.
Thereโ€™s kitschy, then thereโ€™s disgusting. Amatoโ€™s never learned the difference.

Not surprising. That is a โ€œhotโ€ Aksarben Village area property location. Iโ€™d imagine a new business will pop in there rather quickly...

I was going to speculate that if it was quick and fast, Amigos has been expanding their footprint in Omaha the last several years and while not โ€œsexyโ€ it would be a great spot for them to land..

But, I could see Access Bank as well...

At one time, that area was rather slow. The taco bell and McDonald's were both low volume stores. If only they could have foreseen 20 years into the future.

It's amazing how the market shifts and changes. When I worked at Taco Bell in the early 1990s the two busiest stores in the region/market/district/whatever were Galvin Road in Bellevue and West Broadway in Council Bluffs. There's probably almost twice as many TBs in the area as there was back then (though the population has not doubled since then).
