Has anyone noticed all the fast food restaurants remodeling around the metro?

Wendy's on 42 and Dodge, Wendy's and Arby's on 132 and Maple, DQ on 144 and Center, Burger King (Closer to Downtown CB) and Arbys on Broadway.

Not to mention all the McDonalds and Taco Bells that have remodeled or rebuilt.

I've noticed this as well. I think the DQ at 132nd and Maple just got remodeled too.

They've been doing that around these parts too. Most of the older McDonald's and Wendy's have been torn down and rebuilt.

Speaking of that, the Panera Breads in the Chicago area are slowly converting to a kiosk ordering system where you order your food on iPads stationed at the front. Has this reached Omaha? There's still someone at the counter if you prefer the old way, but you get a free cookie for using the kiosk.

I have been to the Panera in CB and the one in Bellevue in the last month. Haven't seen the kiosk there.

In the case of Wendy's, they have a strategy to invest in the look of their stores and make them a bit more upscale to compete with fast-casual, which as I'm sure you all know has taken a lot of the market from traditional QSR/fast-food.

Only place I have seen that around here is the Quick Trip Kitchens.

A lot of the traditional fast food restaurants seem like they are trying to re-brand and remodel, they have been hit hard by the "fast casual" places like Chipotle, Panera, Qdoba, Noodle Company, etc where you can pay the same price for a superior product.

Not exactly a remodel, but, Burger King is going to experiment with Hot Dogs in certain markets.

I don't think it is a limited roll out. The test market stuff was completed and this is rolling out to all US locations later this month from what I read last night.

By introducing wieners to the regular menu at its 7,100 locations, Burger King will become the biggest restaurant seller of hot dogs in the country, says USA Today. Macedo noted that over 20 billion hot dogs (compared with 50 billion burgers) are sold in the U.S. each year, though not many fast food locations make them part of the regular menu.

The Times noted that Burger King is partially owned by a private equity group that also partly owns Kraft Heinz, a company that produces many of the condiments people will be using with the new item.

Sounds like they are going to be $1.99 for a regular and $2.29 for a chili cheese one. They are debuting on 2/23/16.

I'm hoping you can make them chili dogs. I'd love to have a Coney Island or two in Omaha. They are fantastic in Detroit.

I'll say this about BK within their world of fast-food, succeed or fail, they'll try just about anything. They even rolled out a Dr Pepper milkshake recently.. Hmmm...

Back to Panera's Bread... in a few locations they are rolling out a delivery service. I wonder when that will hit Omaha.

That store always seemed small for its location. I doubt they can do much about that on just a remodel, unless it's a tear down and rebuild.

The new Panera Bread at 130th or so and Center has had the kiosk deal since they opened it around a year ago. Its pretty nice when you dont have to talk to anyone.

Not in Omaha, but I was running around Lincoln tonight and visited a remodeled Burger King.

The place had a refreshed exterior, new wall panels, lighting, tables, flat screen television, etc. But they cut corners on the flooring and kept the old circa 1980's brown tile that was cracked and had chunks missing. That made me laugh.

This one is long overdue as well. Every time I go into that one for lunch the floors are sticky and falling apart and the booths haven't fared much better.

McDonald’s flagship redesign debuts in Chicago

Chicago’s River North neighborhood is getting another upgrade as the new flagship McDonald’s location opens today. Replacing the rock ‘n’ roll style of its previous incarnation, the location will be more modern and have outdoor seating options, table service, and a park area.

This is the latest in the newly designed restaurants that the company is calling the “Experience of the Future”. These experiences will focus on customization by eliminating the person-to-person interaction during the ordering process, leaving the choices entirely up to the customer. While the ordering will replace human interaction with kiosks, these locations include table service for those who choose to dine-in.

The 19,000 square-foot location is the first of many McDonald’s to aim for a LEED certification.

I just hope the kiosks are better than the ones they have in some of the ones around Omaha. They are confusing to use, with choices appearing in odd places. They also don’t provide for all options, such as an egg McMuffin with a folded egg.

Here is a story in the Fremont Tribune that says that McDonald's announced that they are spending 42 million to update the 80 or so nebraska locations between now and the end of 2019.

Did anybody ever go to the McDonald's on 108th and Q before it was demolished and rebuilt? I don't mean just through the drive-thru, I mean actually go inside the store. I ate there several times when I lived in Omaha. It was a rather weird looking store. The chairs in there had very unusual looking backs which were orange. Don't ask me to describe them because I can't. It just wouldn't do it justice.
