Maha 2018

Post by iamjacobm »

Maha going to a 2 day festival!

Also really cool news that Big Omaha is moving their annual event to the same week as Maha and the two events are working off of each other.

I think this is good news indeed..

I’ve been a supporter of Maha since the earlier years and have worked the event as a volunteer for 2 of the festivals.. I’m wondering though, if this event gets too big for its current location to handle, where it could move too? That’s a thought for down the road a few years most likely..

In any case, I’m very pleased to see Maha has grown past a one day event :thumb: ...

Perhaps that was the impetus for moving it to a two day event. Splitting the attendance in two could help ease the location restrictions.

That is certainly possible. We’ll see..

I get the sense though, that down the line, perhaps 3 or so years from now, the event could outgrow its current AkSarBen Village location.. And that’s a good thing.. But if/when it comes to that point, where Maha moves will be critical to its ongoing success in taking it to, potentially, that “next level” (more of a national must attend at some point) music event...

Weezer was at Stir two years ago and really put on a great live show. Father John Misty is a huge get for the indie scene.

This is a good looking line up. I may throw my hat back into the ring and work a shift as a volunteer again. The years I did it was well worth it.. If not, $90.00 for a ticket to a 2 day event with a lineup of this quality is a great value...

I have always wondered how safe those traveling rides are. The good thing is, someone is inspecting the ride when it gets put together (hopefully). The thing I worry about is the bolts becoming stripped from being taken apart so many times.

If I attend Maha, it certainly won’t be for the rides...

They use cotter pins to hold those rides together in many places which is especially scary.

In 1978 a guy I went to Roncalli with ran the Sky Diver at Peony Park and I would stop and talk to him all the time when I was there swimming. Many times while we were standing there talking a cotter pin just flew off the ride a and bounced off the ground. In July of 78 he offered me a free ride and then as a joke he did not let me get off for half an hour. I was ready to kill him. A month later in August one of the doors on a car on the Sky Diver flew open and a 13yr old boy fell to his death. Even at 17 I knew that ride was not safe. Like a fool I rode it anyway.
