Mimi's (if you can get into it, the waits can be up to 2 hours on Sunday morning). If you define brunch loosely there are many other places that serve brunch type food on weekends, including Tin Star at VP, LePeep, Rick's Cafe Boatyard, and the ever present Panera. Paradise Bakery has a breakfast menu as well. I think that Grisanti's is doing brunch again as well. There's used to be fantastic.

Thanks for the ideas. I tried Wheatfields for dinner and would like to try them for brunch - yum!
I'm definitely not interested in the chain restaurants. I've frequented Mimis and Panera one too many times in the past 5 years and I haven't eaten at a Paradise Bakery since I had a layover in Phoenix 10 years ago! I guess I just think of PB as airport/mall food - maybe I should try them again for lunch sometime.
Went to Tin Star for dinner last night - I like that place, particularly the salads.

Dixie Quick (call before you go to make sure a table is available) and Bailey's. Â I'm also a sucker for the cheesy potatoes at Granite City on Sunday mornings. Â Really though, 4 out of 5 times, brunch happens at Dixie Quick for me.

Wow, is that still open? I thought for some reason they closed. My retired boss used to take us there for lunch years ago. Yes, it was very good. Perhaps you are thinking of Grumpy's. Â He passed away a little over a year ago, and the family did not keep it open. Â All the recipes left with Grumpy.Omababe wrote:Wow, is that still open? We were looking for a good Breakfast place last Sunday west of 60th and South of Dodge. Â Normally we would head down to 11woth cafe or Louie M's but we had to go out west that morning so we needed something different. Â The only place we could think of (Not including Village Inn, Perkinks or Ihop) was the Farmhouse or Bailey's. Â The Farmhouse was packed and we already knew that Bailey's would be too so we ended up at Bruger's

Tommy Colinas has a really good breakfast at 36th & Farnam and I've also been pretty impressed with the offerings at Upstream.
Other traditional favorites (already mentioned):
Lisa's Radial Cafe
Baileys
Dixie Quick (re-opening in CB in November)

I did a search to see if Vidlak's Brookside Café is listed anywhere on the Forums, and only found it as a suggestion for "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" to visit in Omaha a while back.
It is on the NW corner of 156th and W Center, just before Taste of Thailand, and we had breakfast there a couple Sunday's ago and it was packed, and I mean waiting line into the parking lot packed. Lot's of regulars from what I heard and the breakfast strip mall dive of the year. For those that like to try breakfast joints, this is a must.

Oh, I grabbed the link to the brunch thread from the "Best _____________ in Omaha" Thread.
I went to Vidlak's Brookside Café about 10 years ago. Â Decent mom and pop joint. Â Its probably so busy because the local options west o are so limited...

11 worth does not belong in the list.
Culprit makes excellent bieguet. Â Order plain 3 pieces for $3.75 for filling, sweet breakfast. Â Their ice coffee is a little too bitter for my taste. Â So add plenty of cream and stir their syrup plenty of times. Â Their syrup is a little too thick so it needs plenty of stirring.

Why??? Â I would choose that over any of those chain places hands down.Hyok Kim wrote:11 worth does not belong in the list.

I have too much respect for chicken fried steak. Â 11 worth had absolutely the worst, most disgusting chicken fried steak I ever have had in my life, and it wasn't even cheap. Â Worse than the ones sold at KFC at one time. Â ÂBrad wrote:Why??? I would choose that over any of those chain places hands down.Hyok Kim wrote:11 worth does not belong in the list.
I also don't care much for their ambience. Â I like down to earth, but not skanky. Â
Garden Cafe used to be good, and I am talking about way back when, in the late 80's, when they had one in the basement in the Old market area. Â Now, that was good, and reasonable as well.
Liberty Tavern used to have the best breakfast buffet I ever had when Mr. Wheeler was in charge, and not a bad value considering all the amenities and the ambience one got.
Not so good after Mr.Wheeler's departure. Â Â But their ala carte breakfast isn't too bad, so long as one stays away from really fancy ones that don't really belong to breakfast.

A couple weekends ago I went to 11Worth on Saturday and Wheatfields on Sunday and 11worth blew Wheatfields out of the water with service and food. My plate came out after 45 minutes and was cold at Wheatfields. Just because you pay more and feel all high class does not make it good.

Had I praised Wheatfields? Â Kinda premature on your part.cp jay 07 wrote:

Btw. I can see your taste when you claim 11worth blew Wheatfields out of the water with food? Â Â My experience, service wise, they are about the same. Â Food wise, depends on the individual menus. Â Omelet at 11worths is okay, not great, but doesn't suck, either. Â Â CFS, on the other hand, 11worth is the 'Night Flight' of CFS. Â Deserts, on the other hand, Wheatfields blows 11worth out of the water, not even close.
Again, had I ever even implied paying more equals high class or even good?cp jay 07 wrote:

Night Flight is not cheap, and is the worst pizza I ever had in my life, Vivace on the other hand is not that expensive, despite the location and decor, and the best pizza I had in Omaha. Â Maria Sangria is expensive and the worst Spanish food I ever had in my life.

My wife and I and anyone we have taken, love Duncan's Cafe in Council Bluffs. The dining area is small, but the portions are huge, especially for the price. I have gotten the 3 pancakes numerous times and have only been able to finish them once.
Here is a picture of the dining area:
