I've been to all except Duncan, which skinsfan has tried to get me to. I've been meaning to drive all that way several times, but have never made it there

It is a good place that locals like to go to. There used to be Duncan's on 16th and Broadway just east of Burger King, but like many other places in CB, it was torn down and replaced with a strip mall. The remaining Duncan's on Main St. is located in the Kiel building that was built in 1877. There are some historical artifacts that were unearthed at the site during a previous excavation in the hallway of the building. The top floors are currently apartments.
Here is an old picture of the building.

If you are in SW Omaha and want real hand cooked food, Vidlak's is good. Lisa's is good, but really small and they only take cash. Louie M's is still my fave. Western Omelet with grilled Orsi Italian sausage on the side and a stack of Orsi bread toasted. There are after all only three ways to properly eat Orsi bread, and toasted is one of them. Mightly great grub.

I guess I haven't heard about Louie M's breakfasts. I've just been there for their burgers.

Agree with Dixie Quicks, and with Vidlak's especially living in West O (make sure to throw in Shirley's Diner then)

I am the complete opposite. We go there a about once month. Only had the burger once, I always get Breakfast. But then again, I love breakfast food and will eat it any time I can.

The portions are a little smaller than Leavenworth, but I like both places.

Leo's Diner was our Saturday breakfast spot. Still would put Louie M's first, but this place was very good.

Duncan’s still cooking after four decades

Image
Hensley’s parents, Al and Lillian Duncan, purchased JW’s (Jim Winchester’s) Cafe on Sept. 15, 1974, at the south end of the block where Duncan’s now operates. The facility could seat only 16 customers. The oldest of seven siblings, she had just started attending Thomas Jefferson High School, but her studies were cut short when her father, plant manager at ConAgra (then Blue Star Foods), pulled her out of school to work at the cafe. She finished high school later at Kanesville Alternative Learning Center.

After 1 1/2 years in what employees called the “Elf Cafe,” Duncan’s moved to its current space in the former Kiel Hotel at the other end of the block, she said. The hotel closed in 1980 or 1981 and was sold at auction to Bob and Norma Edwards, who remodeled the building in 1983.

In the new space, there was room for up to 90 customers.

If you wouldn't go to the BEST breakfast restaurant in town because someone was touting it 5 times.... then you're a clown.

If you still haven't gone you're just about the only one left.

Hope someone telling you where the best place is when you ask doesn't keep you from the next place.

The best breakfast I ever had in my entire life was the "South Padre Island" at Leo's Diner in Benson. They don't always have it but it's hashbrowns beneath eggs beneath biscuits and gravy beneath homemade chorizo sausage--can add jalapenos by request. It's one of the spiciest most beautiful things I have ever eaten.

One of the best Sunday Brunch places in Omaha is Granite City. I know it's a regional chain, but their Sunday brunch is freakin' fantastic...

What is the earliest you can get a breakfast in Omaha. I am dropping off a friend for an early flight tomorrow and was wondering if any place opens around 5:00?

I've caught Harold's or Lisa's on my way to the airport depending on which way I'm going but unfortunately neither opens until 6.

Not too many places open before 6AM. Ihop or Denny's 24/7. Village Inn maybe that early. Alverado's is open 24 hrs but drive-thru only at that time. Mickey D's on Dodge is open too. I like an Egg White Delight with hashbrowns.

I love both these restaurants, but yeah, I have to be at work at 6:30...
I have never had a good experience at a Denny's or Perkins...
I'm thinking of going to the 84th St Mickey's, but their coffee sucks...

What time does a normal Starbucks open?
