Omaha's Oakview 24 goes INDIE..

Post by Omaha Cowboy »

This story was also located in the W-H Friday edition..

From the AMC website:

'NEW YORK (May 2, 2006) – Surrounded by the world's leading specialty filmmakers and the excitement of the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, AMC Theatres today announced that it is launching a new program called AMC SELECT that will showcase the best in specialty and independent films at 72 theatres in 39 markets across the country. For the first time in the company's history, AMC will dedicate at least one screen at each AMC SELECT theatre to this type of programming.'..

Omaha is one of the 39 markets and Oakview 24 is the theatre..With this addition, plus the Dundee theatre and the addition of the INDIE Filmstreams 2 screen theatre under construction in North Downtown..Is Providing Omaha with an explosion of alternative movie options..The more the merrier..

Cool.

Oakview has shown indie flicks fairly often, imo. The question is will this be consistent every week to have at least one.

It was a nice idea when the theatres at Southraods were showing indie movies but not a great location for it to thrive.

I'm still lamenting the demise of Indian Hills...

Welcome to the forum w8ing..

And yes..It does appear that AMC will be consistent with the AMC Select plan for Omaha, and the 38 other markets they're in..

From the AMC piece:

'For the first time in the company's history, AMC will dedicate at least one screen at each AMC SELECT theatre to this type of programming.'..

The difference here, is that the nations 2nd largest movie theatre chain has created and will be supporting the AMC Select plan..

It looks to be a pretty solid dedication..
