Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews - Westroads
I just got off the phone with my cousin in Houston who works for the Landry Restaurant Group in PR http://www.landrysrestaurants.com . Â I told her about our trip last week to Omaha, and she mentioned that there are plans for a Joe's Crabshack restaurant. Â The real estate department of her company have already made two trip there, no location has been found as of yet.
My two cents worth told her you guys needed a Rainforest Cafe also. Â I doubt if it held much weight though.

Well..w8ing wrote:I'll take a Hard Rock Cafe over Rainforest!
Hard Rock has the best shakes and burgers, for real! Hard Rock in Omaha... that'll be the day. lol
They have a Hard Rock Cafe in Louisville, KY..So the idea of one possibly in Omaha is not that far-fetched (people were saying that same thing about the improbability of Cheesecake Factory for Omaha 5 years ago)..But then again, it dosen't appear that Hardrock is expanding with any aggressiveness, so who knows..
And thanks for the heads up Guy. It's about time Joe's Crabshack entered the Omaha market..They're LONG overdue for an Omaha location..

One can never get enough of waitstaff dancing to the "Macarena" - that never get's old!Omaha Cowboy wrote:w8ing wrote: It's about time Joe's Crabshack entered the Omaha market..They're LONG overdue for an Omaha location..

I'm not much of a fan of Joe's but any of the Landry's chains (including Joe's) would be good for Omaha. It never hurts to have more choices for seafood.

Actually, there are tons of locally owned restaurants in West Omaha. Bebo's, Prima 140, Red Zone BBQ, Le Voltaire, Ellada, Boyd and Charlie's bbq in Elkhorn, Sam and Louie's pizza, O (a new Asian fusion restaurant), Brother Sebastian's, Big Fred's, The Sitar, Garden Cafe, Summer Kitchen Cafe, Hiro Sushi, Stokes, Jerico's, Charlie's on the Lake, China Buffet, Hector's, Brazenhead, Clancy's, Feta's, Roja, Blue, Di Coppia, Grillhouse.
I can go on and on. Believe it or not, and I know alot of you that leave east of 72nd don't want to believe it so you can keep the West Omaha stereotypes going, but you don't have to live east of 72nd to support local merchants.

Nice post scraper!..
ALL of Omaha has always had a strongly rooted and diverse local restaurant scene..And even with the arrival of most of the national 'heavyweight chains' like Cheescake Factory, it still remains that way today..
I have a simple rule, for every 1 time I eat at a national chain restaurant, I eat at 2 locally owned..A nice balance..

For me, it is difficult to know out west what is local and what is a chain. I can look at Harold's Koffee House in Florence and know that's local. I can't say the same for those places out west. Maybe we could have a sticky thread somewhere on the forum that lists all the locally owned restaurants and diners and people can add to it...?

Back to the subject....I ate at Joes Crabshack in West Des Moines last week and it was good food in a fun atmosphere. I like the chain, and can't figure why we don't already have one, like KC and DSM.
I also enjoy the local restaurants...I actually much prefer them, but there is a place for the better chains. Twenty-five years ago there were maybe 2 or 3 chain restaurants in Omaha (Red Lobster is the only one that comes to mind, however). That's it! Now look how things have changed! That's not just Omaha. The entire nation has turned into franchise heaven (or heck, depending on your perspective).

-Yeah, but the odds of getting sliced by a bum increases dramatically. I am not advocating either side, but stereotypes can go either way.w8ing wrote:Hey, at least east of 72nd the number of soccer moms cutting people off and then flipping them the bird for honking drops dramatically.MTO wrote:but east of 72nd is terrifying..
Hey, at least with bums you can see them coming and get out of their way. Those soccer moms, what with their barreling SUVs, tunnel-vision, and voting against their own interests are a lot harder to avoid.
I only joke. But statitically speaking, it's a lot more likely that you'll get in a car accident than get "sliced by a bum".
But anyway...are there any local sea food resturants?

Always thought a Hard Rock Cafe would be good in the Old Market. Â
Omaha music history is stronger than that in Louisville or Indianapolis, Â
from 311 and Bright Eyes way back to Winona Harris (attended Central Hi). Â Also, Grand Funk mentions Omaha in "American Band."
But their expansion days are minimal now, focusing instead on hotels and casinos. Â Minneapolis HRC just closed.
