Well your numbers are wrong
No, my numbers were referring to his opening week sales, which got him on the billboard charts, not total sales, which is what your numbers referred to.
The tidal wave of press and critical accolades resulted in Wide Awake clocking in at No. 10 in the Billboard charts for its first week of sales, moving 56,167 units, while Digital Ash made No. 15 on the chart with 45,736 units scanned.

But I did compare it to REO Speedwagon's total sales, so I guess it's a valid comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take BE over REO Speedwagon anyday. But as a matter of numbers I don't know that BE has more fans than REO Speedwagon (still) does.

hardly, I've heard stories where he used to be carded at bars, no one knew who he was!
so if you are famous you don't need to be carded if you look young?

Yeah, and you also have to take into account that REO existed in the pre-"free-internet-music-download" era...which I would say adds at least another 15% in album sales just from curiosity alone.

And I would be interested in seeing the comparison in todays deflated music industry numbers compared with...well whenever REO was around. Ratio wise, they might be more on par with each other.

Personally (and I could care less about the 'youth' vote  ), I'd love to see Steely Dan play a free gig at Memorial Park..But that is a pipe dream for sure..

I think some of you younger cats would really like their music..

Yeah, those were such dark and dreary days, before anybody every got anything for "free". I'm sure nobody copied their LP to a tape for a friend (or 50) back in those days.

Sorry Swift, I'm not buying the Bright Eyes popularity thing....

4.. 7.. 1.. awesome, thnx that list is fun. i've forwarded it to a bunch of myspace friends.

But please, they need to readjust what quantifies as platinum/gold etc.. Anyone even the pixie sticks can go platinum now a days.

But in all fairness. Tell me how long Bright Eyes has been on the scene and how long REO has?

Outside of Alive! and Destroyer, KISS didn't sell too many other records. They were big on concerts and merchandise, becoming the first band to generate $1 billion in revenue.

Exit the warrior, today's Tom Sawyer. He gets high on you and the energy you trade. He gets right on to the friction of the day.

How did I get turned onto Rush? By their lack of crappy music. I heard them and like enough of their stuff to buy a couple CDs. They're also a very urban minded band. ;)

I think if D'Jaun listened to anything other then RUSH or Dream Theater/Liquid Tension it would tear a hole in the space time continuum. And we would all be trapped in a quantum singularity.
