Its nice to see that their membership fee is the same, unlike the zoo...

However I wish they would stop doing all these hands on activity exhibits. Leave that to the Children's Museum. I wish they would go back to the older traveling exhibits that they had like Terror In America, and the Abe Lincoln one.

Interior Department Announces 24 New National Historic Landmarks

That's awesome! It is a cool building. I just received a 2-year family, plus one friend, membership for Christmas this year.

‘History with Hops’ featured at Omaha’s Durham Museum

The Durham Museum in Omaha is hosting an adults night out event on June 9 — called History with Hops — where participants can have a cold drink while exploring the historic Union Station and learning about Omaha history.

The event, for guests 21 years of age and older, offers a chance to visit the museum after hours. Featured offerings include: guided tours of the Suzanne and Walter Scott Great Hall, with its 65-foot art deco ceilings; pop-up curator stations with rarely seen artifacts from the museum collection; and the museum’s permanent and traveling exhibits (including one about Nelson Mandela and another about the Dinosaur Revolution).

The event will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the museum, 801 S. 10th St. Registration and entry fee also includes a drink ticket and snacks. The Durham Museum is in Omaha’s art deco Union Station and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

DRESSING THE ABBEY
SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 – JANUARY 8, 2023

Image

Dressing the Abbey is a costume exhibition that highlights fashion from one of the most widely watched television dramas in the world, Downton Abbey™. Experience original costumes worn by the stars of Downton Abbey™ that depict fashions of the British aristocracy in the early 20th century. The exhibition showcases the turbulence and changes in the late Edwardian era through the 1920s using the fashions of the period while evoking fans’ favorite moments.

The exhibition’s award-winning costumes created for the British hit drama were produced by the London costume house of Cosprop Ltd. The costumes were created for the show’s aristocratic Crawley family and their servants who inhabit the fictional English country estate of Downton Abbey™. The costumes range from country tweeds and riding outfits; servants’ uniforms and footmen’s livery; to lavish evening attire crafted from sumptuous fabrics and decorated with intricate embroidery, lace and beading. Dressing the Abbey weaves popular culture, fashion and history in an exhibition borrowed from Downton Abbey’s™ wardrobe.

The exhibition is developed and distributed by Exhibits Development Group in cooperation with Cosprop Ltd., London, England. The exhibition is not endorsed by, sponsored by, licensed by, associated with, or otherwise affiliated with the television series Downton Abbey™, NBC Universal International, Carnival Film and Television Limited or their representatives.

THEATER ROW: STAGE AND SCREEN IN EARLY 20TH CENTURY OMAHA
NOW – JANUARY 29, 2023

Image

During the first half of the 20th century, along Douglas Street between 14th and 16th, was a boom of theater houses whose development tells a story of the evolution of stage to screen. This exhibit highlights four giants of early theater houses in Omaha that gave this area a name of ‘Theater Row.’ The focus of this exhibit are the architectural giants including The Empress, The Moon, The Rialto and The World Theater. Using photographs and objects from the museum’s collection, each theater tells a story tied to the growth of Omaha and the development of the theater industry from its earliest connections to vaudevillian stage acts to the more modern films of today. Like shows of old, stories presented will fascinate and enthrall.

Durham Museum Christmas tree to be transported Monday

One Omaha woman has made countless memories with a blue spruce tree she bought at Shopko for $5 in 1987 and planted in her yard. Three and a half decades later, tree owner Janice Teegarden decided to share it with the community after it was chosen to be this year's Christmas tree at the Durham Museum. On Monday, the over 40-foot tall tree will be chopped down and taken to the museum.

Jimmy Kimmel on the Durham Museum's creative way of transporting the annual Christmas tree

The Durham Museum's massive Christmas tree has gone national. Omaha's annual tradition, which will be on display throughout the holiday season, was mentioned on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday night. In his monologue, Jimmy Kimmel showed how the Durham Museum and Union Pacific transported the tree into the museum.

Trump Admits to Stealing Documents, Lindsey Loves Herschel & MyPillow Mike’s Craziest Idea Yet

Jimmy talks about watching holiday movies with his kids, the annual Christmas tree in Omaha being dragged by trucks into the Durham Museum, the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team advancing at the World Cup, a brawl that took place at a hockey game in British Columbia, polls showing that Herschel Walker is in a dead heat with Raphael Warnock for the Senate seat in Georgia, Lindsay Graham being in love with Herschel, MyPillow Mike Lindell announcing that he wants to be in charge of Republican Party campaign spending as the head of the RNC, Donald Trump being bigly upset about Jack Smith the Special Counsel who was appointed to oversee the investigation into classified documents, Eric Trump playing the daddy card, Mike Pence weighing in on Trump’s dinner with Kanye, and wholesome neighborhood shoe merchants are circling YE.

"They just attach it to the back of two trucks and drag it in there," Kimmel said. "How they got the trucks out of the museum, I don't know ... they had to be drunk when they came up with this plan, right? This is not a decision that sober people make ... but I tell you what, I admire it." This year's tree is a 40-foot-tall blue spruce donated by Omaha resident Janice Teegarden.

Omaha's Durham Museum works to restore historic Great Hall ceilings

Many of us have experienced the awe of entering the Durham's Great Hall, looking up and taking it all in. The Museum is continuing its restoration efforts, focusing on the intricate Art Deco ceilings, preserving history.

An Omaha icon getting a refresh: The Durham Museum continues restoration of Art Deco ceilings in Great Hall

Sitting 60 feet above, historic art displayed across the Union Station ceilings is now getting a refresh. "We consider Union Station our greatest artifact the building is a national, historic landmark, so it's our responsibility to care for it," said Jessica Brummer, director of communications for The Durham Museum. But maintaining it, while also preserving that history is key.

"I think it's just going to be even more grand”
KETV gets up-close look at Omaha's Union Station ceiling restoration

Omaha’s Durham Museum is undergoing a $1.6 million restoration of the ceiling in the iconic Union Station. The building was named a national historic landmark in 2016. “We're one of the most pristine examples of Art Deco architecture in the nation. And so, we just feel like it is our privilege and our obligation to make sure that we're preserving the building and preserving that history for our community,” said Kim Henze.

Henze is the Director of Museum Operations for the Durham Museum, and she said the current restoration is necessary to keep up with the ravages of time on the old building along 10th street. The 92-year-old station has suffered water damage and other typical blemishes over time. Currently, workers are restoring the ceiling in the Suzanne and Walter Scott Great Hall.

KETV Newswatch 7 got an up-close look at the detailing, climbing five-flights of scaffolding to see intricate work.
