Do you shoot with umbrella's or softboxes? Do you use them for locations with battery packs? (I think you can tell that I really want to buy some!)

Currently for locations, I use my Sigma DG 500 Super mounted on a light stand with an umbrella tethered to my 20D. I think I 'm going to pick up the 580EX so I can use a battery pack at weddings.
Oh my, my apologies. I was just making a generalized joke! I really want a pair of Alien Bees as well - the Digi-Bee package (budgets you know). I think I would prefer umbrellas. I use the 580EX at work with my 20D, if you want a test drive PM me.

WOW! All greats pics - Chris, Jeff & Wags. We will have to stuff the voting ballots.

I just got back in town yesterday and completely forgot I wanted to take some shots for this challenge. Look like I just missed out on the great weather.

So we did end up going to the zoo today, and what a great day for it! We nearly had the place to ourselves. I got halfway there and realized that I was sans tripod, Murphy and his law got a jump on us leaving me handheld for the day. Here's the better of today's efforts, not sure if I'll enter any of these though. Also starting to play with borders a little, dunno if I like them yet.

I like them Tuna. What software are you using to make borders? I recenly learned some fast ways to make stand-out borders in Photoshop CS. Maybe we can swap photoshop secrets

Thanks for the kudos, guys! The borders I just threw together quick and dirty in Photoshop Elements2. I resized pics down to 600x400 and enlarged the canvas by 40px to 640x440. Sometimes I see a thin stripe of gold or another accent color in others' borders, but couldn't get that one to work last night.

All these are great! Brad, I really like the one from a distance of the zoo. It reminds me of a middle eastern sunset.

These are some of my favorites this year at the zoo.

Zoo Plans for Rosenblatt Land

Post by Choleric »

I know I know another hearsay rumor;

Friend in one of my classes has worked at the zoo for over five years and is pretty high in the chain. She mentioned today that the Zoo is planning a Sea World type function on the old grounds of the Blatt. So get ready for Shamu Omaha.

that'd be cool...i don't see it happening, but that'd be cool.  I see them utilizing part of it for an expanded exhibit or two, and definitely more parking.  We went last weekend (got there at 10:45 on sunday, thought it was fairly busy) and when we left at 1-ish, the whole zoo lot was full, rosenblatt was full, and they were parking by the nebraska visitors bureau, with people walking down 10th.

I like the idea!

I'm sure the zoo folks would LOVE to acquire the Rosenblatt property.

I don't think they want to pay for it, though. ...

... or worse, assume any debt on it.

"The Zoo" is already buying the Rosenblatt land. It's part of the whole stadium deal.

This is a question i'm asking to everyone:  will it be a) an exhibit or 2, and a |expletive| load of parking or b) something new (like a sea world'ish type thing) and a little bit of parking?

Either way, i'm sure they're going to utilize a chunk of that for extra parking, especially with the amount of people that visit there each year.

...and fwiw, i think it'd be cool to have a sea world type thing there; at least some form of non-competing aquarium or science environment that wouldn't hinder the aquarium that's in the zoo now.

an attraction with dolphins, small whales, and etc(ala the Shedd) wouldn't compete and would be another one of those charge additional fees exhibits.

I am assuming that this would need to be indoors?  There is no way a dolphin could survive a Nebraska winter.

A Shedd-like aquarium would be an awesome addition there.  It's got the space and would be great, IMO.  South Omaha could really turn into a science and nature destination.  I'd also like it if they had some type of science center...after buying and removing some of the more dilapidated homes in the area :)

Here's Shedd

http://www.sheddaquarium.org/

and here's Adler Planetarium (for the space and science folks)

http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/

I think, if done right, it wouldn't detract from the UNO planetarium.  They could always do something more general science related, and maybe have mock-ups of the ash falls to our north.  Something of a Nebraska archeology type thing with some industry sciences, too.  I think that would also draw in more hotels, because there would be more of a consistent flow of people.  That'd help the good people of South Omaha in terms of steady revenue that isn't going on right now.  Plus, it'd help balance Omaha.

Right.  Ever been to Shedd?  It's all indoors.  Seaworld Ohio closed in part because many of the exhibits couldn't operate year-round.

Although, and I'm sure it's not cost effective, it would be cool to have a portion open up to an outside tank for the warmer months.

I'm sure the zoo would accept pandas if the opportunity ever arises.
