So they invented both the Reuben and butter brickle ice cream. Too bad they aren't still around creating new things.

And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father, dear? Is he a coal miner?

I was asked to send Nebraska items to a 1st grade class in Ouray. I have 4 post cards, but besides having to go to the airport where could I look to find items representing Nebraska for first graders... magnets of the Sandhill cranes.... is there a Kool Aid made in Nebraska packets...?

Mason is the son of good friends Nate and Keeton Disser, who runs the San Juan Mountain Guides (SJMG) LLC - based in Durango and Ouray, Colorado. Felix is traveling the states, so if anyone feels generous, have Felix send his class something from the state you live in, maybe just a postcard with your states historical trivia... Tell them Coyote and Felix are friends :)

Art Babbitt. He was an animator for the Walt Disney Company and is best known for developing the character of Goofy. He also animated the Wicked Queen in Snow White and Gepetto among others.

Cathy Hughes.

http://www.omaha.com/columnists/kelly/k ... 89dfa.html
Cathy Hughes, who should be a household name in her hometown of Omaha, is eager to return next week for two full days of public activity — both serious and fun.

The 1964 graduate of Duchesne Academy, who once lived in an Omaha housing project, became the founder and chair of black-oriented radio, TV and digital networks now called Urban One. Based in Washington, she is one of the wealthiest black women in America.

On Thursday in Omaha, a street-naming ceremony in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. at the Fontenelle Park Pavilion. A community reception will follow from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Love’s Jazz & Art Center, near 24th and Lake Streets.

I've been tracking the rise of an Omaha pop/hip-hop duo, Jack & Jack, for the last 3 years or so. Anyway, they've had some moderate success over the last few years, but they just recently had huge back to back hits (No One Compares to You, and Rise, which garnered over 220,000,000 You Tube visits). I'm sure some of you are already familiar with their work, but their market seems to skew very young. This could be the biggest musical act out of Omaha since 311.

From the Daytona 500 to the Durham Museum, Omaha sculptor John Lajba shines

Millions of NASCAR fans watched a history-making, double-overtime win at the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The trophy Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. hoisted overhead was made in Omaha by sculptor, John Lajba. His relationship with NASCAR is decades old. It started in Shalimar, FL, at Bob Hope Village — after Lajba finished a sculpture of the legendary entertainer. "(Bob) had a show for the unveiling," Lajba recalled. "And he had Phyllis Diller, and he had Reba McEntire, and he had Miss America at the time. And here I am, you know?!"

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Cathy Hughes (founder of the Urban One radio network) is from Omaha. I didn't know this until about 10 years ago. I remember her from the 1980's when she started a Sunday evening radio show called the "Quiet Storm" on WHUR (Howard University's radio station)---they played easy listening R&B music (stuff like Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, and the like). I was a big fan. Anyway, she went on to create Urban One and a similar cable TV station. For what it's worth, she's the second wealthiest Black woman in the country.

Actors Gabriel Union and the late John Beasley.
