I thought at the beginning of a new year we could share our 2012 wish list for Omaha - here are a few of mine:

1. Wall Street Tower progress
2. Butternut Building progress
3. North Downtown continued development
4. Street Car progress
5. Crossroads development
6. 13th & Jackson progress
7. More living options downtown
8. More Aksarben Village tenants
9. Chili Greens development
10. Burlington development

My wish list is mostly restoration-based:

1. Buildings renovated in the Nicholas Street Historic District.

2. Barker Building renovation with apartments and street-level retail.

3. Revitalization of South 10th Street.

4. The new Shamrock Development on 10th and Capitol

5. All the work that Urban Village and others are doing in Midtown.

6. 40th and Hamilton, 16th and California and 16th and Locust revitalization.

7. Revitalization in North Omaha

8. Renovation to the old Lerner Building.

9. Vinton Street revitalization.

10. The former Northern Natural Gas Building turned into a residential highrise.

I would like to see 16th Street re-configuration occur... it is ridiculous that we're apparently throwing money at Dundee ahead of this.

I would like some cookies and a pair of Boy london leggings.

seriously though, my main wish for Omaha this year is for that godawful hole on 12th and Jackson to finally get built up, no matter what goes there, really. It's going on five years now that there's been a giant dirt patch in one of the most important areas of Omaha and it's gotta go.

They wrapped the fence next door for the apartment building with a green tarp (I'm assuming so that people wouldn't have to look at dirt... or other reasons?). They should do the same for the Hyatt property until something gets built.

justnick hit the nail on the head, I would be ecstatic if this hole would just be developed already.  I am concerned about this proposal due to the an almost identical proposal in Austin, TX still not started by Hyatt.

My hope for 2012 is that we see some type of momentum in western Downtown.

The NNG conversion is a good start, and I'm hopeful that more developments turn up.

I believe in the last master plan... this area was dubbed the 'arts district'.

In the 2030 plan?  it's "The Joslyn District".  The "arts district" would be in North Downtown where the Hot Shops are located.

1. More transportation options (biking, better bus routes, planning of streetcar/light rail). Starting of Harney St. Bikeway!

2. More tourist attractions and events

3. Revitalize Leavenworth st from saddle creek to downtown

4. More tenants in Aksarben Village, Midtown Crossing, and Downtown

5. Start a plan to fuse midtown crossing and downtown together.

6. Crossroads Development

7. Change the land use so we can increase density, build up, and phase out the suburbia vibe within the city limits.

8. Plan for a building on 11th and jackson (where the farmers market is located. Move the market to the streets in front of this building.)

9. Year round farmers market or food market downtown

10. Make the old market car-free on friday and saturday nights. Section off the area with cones and let people fill up the streets.

I was just on 40th and Hamilton yesterday. This area has so much potential. There are some cool historic buildings and LOTS of land for infill development.

Plus, there are lots of big warehouses closer to Cuming St that could be converted to mixed use and help tie the area together. This could become another hot spot like Benson or Dundee. A hip area with a vintage vibe.

8. More Aksarben Village tenants
This wish comes to mind as one that's coming true.  Another hotel, Gordman's new headquarters, etc.
