Omaha's Most Unique Homes??

Post by mr. omaha »

I'm trying to develop an extensive walk/drive tour-type list of unique homes (still standing) in Omaha. What would you suggest be included? Homes can be from any era, any style, or any part of town (include adaptive reuse homes, like a warehouse conversion)...

There are some beautiful historic homes on 38th Street between Davenport and Cuming.

Who is the tour for? And what do you mean by "unique"? I'd love to help out!

I looked through that book a few weeks ago. Great book, but awfully depressing seeing a lot of lost architecture.

I own that book (excellent, btw) and just about every other one like it out there (Omaha City Architecture being my all-time favorite) but I guess what I'm asking is this... if you could spend one day looking at a collection of houses in Omaha, or say if you were going to make a photo book similar to building for the ages that just focused on homes, what are the individual gems you would want to see? For example: Uber-modern homes might include the house on 52nd St. just south of Leavenworth, The Gordman House in Regency, The old BF Goodrich warehouse conversion on Abput 22nd and St. Marys, etc........

How about that place southeast, adjacent the Amtrak station property?  Did that thing ever sell by the way?

So, when can we expect it to be torn down?  :;):

Immediately NE of 9th and Pacific.  Private drive comes in from the north side of the block.

Not sure if it's the entire partial block, or just the part with the trees.

Yup.  It's not a "house", though.  It's a "residence".  The photos when it was listed on cbshome.com were pretty sweet.  The someone that wants to live in that neighborhood has a pretty sweet setup now.  I'd say it's comparable to the residence in Prouty Place over by the CLink, north of 902 Dodge.

I don't remember what it started life as.  Something that supported the train stations, maybe?  Someone on here will know, I'm sure.

Here's a less-disorienting video of 822 on YouTube by UrbanOmaha...

I always liked the gate at that place. Just imagine how cool it would be to haul a lawn chair and six pack to the top of that stack and watch the fireworks!

I drive past that thing constantly, and I have always wanted to take a look inside that place at some point.  Maybe I'll just walk up there one day and say hi...

This house in my neighborhood has been taking forever, but seems like its going to be really unique when its done. Its right across from Westside's football field.

It's in Bellevue, but I remember driving past it years ago and thinking it stuck out like a sore thumb:

Haha I just drove by that house this past winter for the first time. Was that something else before a residence? Wow

I'm confused, is this referring to the Zillow listing as that's in Elkhorn.

Needless to say, what the actual F... The house makes no sense. Reminds of one Phil Dunphey is trying to sell on Modern Family... you go through one door and end up on a different level.

Drum set just chilling in the backyard... WOW? Keyboard against the wall outside the indoor pool... and there appears to be someone living there sorta... clothes in the closet and some |expletive| around the house but other spots look completely empty (garage and some of the rooms).

Who lives in that place and says "Man, this place is awesome in 2023". It looks like they might even have younger kids.

All I can say is "WOW".

They have a story in the OWH today about this house.
