Animal control? ("roadkill")?

Post by Omababe »

Who around here is responsible for removing injured and dead animals from the streets? This case would be Sarpy County.

Last Friday I took 168th. in and there was a poor dead raccoon right in the middle of the road. I figured that someone would take care of him.

Then yesterday I also took 168th. and the poor fella was still there, although very badly mangled! :(

Would this be the Humane Society? County Sheriff? Department of Roads?

Animal Control is responsible for picking up injured or dead wildlife on roadways, ditches and in residential and business areas of Omaha, Bellevue, La Vista, Papillion, Ralston, Gretna, Springfield, and Sarpy County. To report a dead animal for pick-up please call (402)444-7800 extension 1.

If a dead animal is on your property and you want to move it yourself it’s always advisable to wear gloves. Place the animal in a plastic trash bag (some people prefer to double bag) and secure the top. You can then call Animal Control for pickup or drop the animal off at the Nebraska Humane Society at 8929 Fort Street, in Omaha.
