2017 Wish List

Postby Coyote » Sat Dec 24, 2016 2:43 pm

Last year Coyote wrote:1) Restoration Exchange, the City of Omaha, OPA and HDR make a surprise announcement
2) More Development in the Blackstone District
3) Progress in the Year Round Farmer's Market
4) Storz property and the riverfront redeveloped (extending the riverfront sidewalk south past The Breakers).
5) Plans announced for the expansion of the CLink including the Baby Bob and Parking Garage on Lot D, paving the way for the development of Lot B
6) Announcement of a Huge new Sporting Event at the CLink

Time again to make your wish list for 2017.

1) City announces the downtown library is moving to Tetrad's development, making way for the new Kiewit Tower.
2) City finalizes plans for Lot B, anchored by an ESPN/Nike Sports Lounge.
3) City decides to create a world class museum on the riverfront.
4) City announces a Street Car plan from the airport to the Nebraska Medical Center, making way for numerous projects along Farnam St.

We stop referring to Westroads or anything east of 102nd street as "West Omaha", 102nd and Dodge is Halfway to what has been annexed by Omaha.

If you're quoting yourself from last year: 2016 wish list

nebraska wrote:
  1. 6-8 floor infill between 30-35th Streets, complements Midtown Crossing
  2. NebMed announces Saddle Creek will get moved (south of Dodge, where the mill building was) and consequent 2 more DRC towers
  3. Millard: The Lumberyard Phase 2 exploratory committee
  4. Fun Plex's 2nd coaster is taller, faster than 1st one
  5. City of Omaha releases 'Back To The River' master plan (from Anchor Inn to Marcy St, including reconnecting 8th and 9th St in HOAP)
  6. City Council's new High Tech Incentive Plan for companies purchasing property east of I680
  7. a coffeeshop or cafe closer to my apartment...

So, #1 could count with the new Mutual of Omaha hotel and apartments announcement.
#2 Saddle creek ain't moving, but UNMC is putting out bids for "urban development" west of Saddle Creek.
#3-6 whatever...
#7 I moved to Blackstone, so my coffee options now includes Archtype

Well for 2017, I wish:
  1. City of Omaha releases 'Back to the River' master plan, but this time we're talking world class museum (as mentioned by Coyote above)
  2. More stuff for Blackstone, because I live here now and would like more things. Let's start with City Bikes
  3. Urban filler project announced for Bohemian stretch of 13th Street, perhaps a couple of apartment projects for starters
  4. City admits parking requirements are holding back progress and allows denser construction projects without it (parking construction holds back projects because of costs)
  5. Omaha begins serious discussion of combining the public school districts, residents fight tooth and nail to protect status quo
  6. New mid-rise development announced at 84th Dodge or nearby, where the current HDR is.
  7. and bike lanes become a thing

For 2017 it looks like 4/10 for me assuming I haven't missed anything on the parking minimums. Still, an improvement from 2016.

In 2018 I will repeat a few from last year and add some others
1) Physical changes occur in one or more of: North downtown makers district, crossroads, riverfront/con agra/GLM, unmc west of pacific, or the grass lots downtown.
2) Crossroads ownership changes hands.
3) Changes to parking minimums.
4) State budget stabilizes with no further cuts to education or tuition increases
5) Big Papio trail begins extension to Tranquility.
