City of Omaha Permits and Inspections - Huge Backlog

I have heard that a key employee of P&I has retired and there is a four month review time for commercial construction permits. This is completely unacceptable in this current construction and development climate. 
I encourage anyone in the construction or design industry to contact the mayor's office or their city council member.
Has anyone heard otherwise or have any insight to this fiasco? Not to mention Omaha is still under the 2006 IBC! They have been planning to update for at least the last four years.
