Ouch Coyote, by my count that's 2.5/10 for the last two years combined. Looks like lofty goals for 2018, I would be thrilled with 25% of those coming true. I'll go dig mine up, not sure the percentage will be any better though.

Well, in the past 10 years I don't think I would have ever predicted MTC, West Farm or Eppley's growth, much less the development around Park Ave., the Blackstone District or some others, and I haven't been back since 2015. So with my lack of perspective in person here goes:

Eppley announces a timeline for reconstruction and expansion of the terminal, probably breaking ground on a first phase

From the out on a limb department, a high rise residential building downtown. And I'm talking 20-30 stories.

Real progress on a streetcar/light rail route.

ConAgra realizes that the move to Chicago was a mistake and happened just to placate the kid they named head of the company. They announce that they are going to bulldoze their downtown Omaha buildings and that they are going to completely rebuild Jobbers Canyon. A plaque will be placed somewhere naming Mike Harper as a scrooge.

That should do it.

  1. 6-8 floor infill between 30-35th Streets, complements Midtown Crossing
  2. NebMed announces Saddle Creek will get moved (south of Dodge, where the mill building was) and consequent 2 more DRC towers
  3. Millard: The Lumberyard Phase 2 exploratory committee
  4. Fun Plex's 2nd coaster is taller, faster than 1st one
  5. City of Omaha releases 'Back To The River' master plan (from Anchor Inn to Marcy St, including reconnecting 8th and 9th St in HOAP)
  6. City Council's new High Tech Incentive Plan for companies purchasing property east of I680
  7. a coffeeshop or cafe closer to my apartment...
2017 wish list
  1. City of Omaha releases 'Back to the River' master plan, but this time we're talking world class museum (as mentioned by Coyote above)
  2. More stuff for Blackstone, because I live here now and would like more things. Let's start with City Bikes
  3. Urban filler project announced for Bohemian stretch of 13th Street, perhaps a couple of apartment projects for starters
  4. City admits parking requirements are holding back progress and allows denser construction projects without it (parking construction holds back projects because of costs)
  5. Omaha begins serious discussion of combining the public school districts, residents fight tooth and nail to protect status quo
  6. New mid-rise development announced at 84th Dodge or nearby, where the current HDR is.
  7. and bike lanes become a thing
Hmm, FunPlex went in the wrong direction with their roller coasters. But at least it does seem that South 13th Street will become a thing in the near future. The City has learned that parking minimum does hurt progress (YAY!).
  1. The "back to the river (again)" plans are released and it's not just greenspace with parking...
  2. Any 20+ story building project announced for downtown (preferably at 11/12th Dodge/Capital)
  3. I still think a mid-rise apartment is due to be announced at 84th and Dodge area
  4. Lot B announces a developer
  5. The leading streetcar group announces a route that includes the airport (with decent hours, unlike the #16 bus)
  6. UNMC's replacement for MMI/JP Lord property is announced
  7. and bike lanes become a thing

1. A cogent modular mass transit system than can handle the various special needs of Omaha's event-based lifestyle.

2. A city leadership that supports developers but also respects taxpayers such that we either get no bill or we get a fair equity ownership based on what we pay for the development.

3. For me:

A. More time behind the trigger of my target rifle.
B. Another chance to shoot photos that are better than what I think I am capable of.
C. Another year with my wife and family.

We've been conditioned to make our wishlists too realistic because we've very optimistic in the past.

Dodge Street BRT is supposed to be finished in 2018. I hope it is, and that it's heavily used among new riders.
I hope a concrete streetcar plan is announced with a scheduled groundbreaking.
I hope the city fixes some of the heavily potholed streets in north and south Omaha.
I wish people would consider shopping at Family Fare instead of defaulting HyVee and Walmart.
I hope the police helicopter has less reason to fly around my neighborhood so often.
I hope the former No Frills on Blondo becomes a Planet Fitness or Blue Moon Fitness and not sit vacant or become an apartment complex.
Hopefully someone proves my apathy about Crossroads wrong.
I hope Walmart finds a new place to build another supercenter to relieve the always busy 72nd & Pine location.

Will edit as needed.

Here's a giant stretch goal for 2018, but with Mutual pushing up to the west edge of 480 and other developments continuing to encroach on the east edge, I'd love to see a proposal for adding businesses to both sides of Farnam and Harney ala Columbus, OH.

Bridged with businesses next to Columbus convention center

Mahoney State Park

They have one in KC that they use for tournaments and games. Full hockey boards, fire pits nearby for parents.

Why have an indoor ice rink on the riverfront? Why not keep the riverfront for outdoor activities that draw people to the river instead? I'd prefer more recreation trails, picnic areas, tennis courts, shuffleboard, miniature golf, volleyball, a dog park, skate park, or any kind of outdoor sports field.

I actually heard about that from someone with Heritage Services. It was at a small presentation and could not ask why? I am assuming it's to get some traffic down there during the winter.

Based on what he said, at least one person from HS saw the story on the Omaha Squirt team that qualified for Canada. They learned about the shortages of ice time in Omaha despite the new rinks.

I'd combo the indoor with one next to it for outdoor. Then you use both for different purposes when Spring rolls around.

That looks awesome. I visited Cedar Point about 15 years ago and look to go back. That park blows everything else out of the water if you like roller coasters.

I've been wanting to go to Cedar Point for years. Due to lack of interest from family and colleagues, it would likely be a solo vacation. Stuff like that can be annoying to plan.
