I kind of liked her column.

She pandered to her readership a little bit, same thing that Shatel does...but I suppose that's a necessary evil at the OWH. I enjoyed her writing more when she was in college and wrote for the Daily Nebraskan...IMO, that was really her best stuff.

The Earth shook and the winds blew with great force and thus the woman known as Rainbow was no more and there was peace unto the land.

Initially I admit I was jealous of her getting a citywide forum like that to yack about whatever. Of course with blogs now, anyone can have the world as a forum.

In the beginning I found her columns alright though rarely topics I was interested in. I didn't care for her columns at all which took divisive topics and turned them into trite soundbites that had answers which were so clearly obvious to her she felt it her duty to condescendingly point them out to everyone else. But then, that is a hallmark of youth. :) Most of us have been there.

This is insignificant to me, I usually skipped over her column and moved on to worthwhile news.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on Rainbow's columns..I especially disliked her columns when she wrote about anything Omaha..Most times, you could feel her contempt for our city and minimizing tone rising from her penned words..Her columns regarding 'personal interest stories' were okay. I always felt she should have stuck to writing them only..

In any case..

Rainbow leaving is not a loss for the W-H..IMO, they now have a chance to upgrade this important 2nd columnist position behind Michael Kelly..Who has picked up the mantle quite well from legendary W-H columnist Robert McMorris..Kelly's column has certainly become a must read for me..

I thought her last column had a good message... one the World Herald should be pushing more.

This is classic...

Rainbow's thread is moved from "News and Events" to "General Discussion."

More proof that anything in the local fishwrap really isn't news.

Excellent point. Reading blogs has become much more important than reading *most* newspaper columnists these days.

The Omaha World Herald needs to reinvent itself or become irrelevant. Soon.

I like the idea of a physical piece of paper to read with my breakfast, but if all I am reading is poorly researched stories, old stories, or repeats of the NY Times, then I will have to risk getting coffee on my MacBook.

Maybe Rainbow understands this... maybe not.

I read the paper every day, I don't think I ever read on of her columns. The title usually turned me away.

I was not a fan but did like the fact that she gave a different perspective on things than the normally conservative World Herald view point. If I saw in the public pulse letters complaining about her I usually went back and read those columns. Omaha has about the most sheltered media I've ever come across. Very conservative on the news end and on the sports side of things, very easy on the local teams. Hopefully they hire someone else that will occasionally stir the pot around here. If not it gets pretty boring in the paper.

That is pretty good news, although I too enjoyed that last tirade of hers.

Rainbow is now going to be writing comics for Marvel comics. I will leave the editorials comments to others.

As long as she has nothing to do with writing her "opinions" about the Greater Omaha Metropolitan Area, I'm mostly good with this.. Just as long as she doesn't screw up Marvel Comics in her new endeavor...
