RIP: Robert Culp

He co-starred with Bill Cosby in the late 60's espionage series "I Spy."  I enjoyed watching reruns growing up, and while it was a bit cheesy, it was no worse than most James Bond movies.  I always thought him and Cosby were great together.

Luigi R.I.P.

Post by ricko »

Omaha jazz legend Luigi Waites died yesterday.

Knowing my love for jazz, a relative took me to Mr. Toad's "library" in the 70's during a college Christmas break to hear Luigi. It was magic.  Because of the small crowd, I was able to 'talk jazz' with him after his set.  We've not only lost an Omaha icon, but a fine human being as well.

Tony on TnT had a funny joke today.  They told him that GC was in the hospital and he said "he must have suffered a different stroke."

Sad news though.

Bad Week for the Yankees

Bob Sheppard dead at 99
www.espn.com wrote:NEW YORK -- Bob Sheppard, whose elegant introductions of stars from Joe DiMaggio to Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium for more than a half century earned him the nickname "The Voice of God," died Sunday. He was 99.

The revered public address announcer died at his Long Island home in Baldwin with his wife, Mary, at his side, the Yankees said.
Sheppard started with the Yankees in 1951 and he last worked at Yankee Stadium late in the 2007 season, when he became ill with a bronchial infection. He recorded a greeting to fans that was played at the original ballpark's final game on Sept. 21, 2008, and his audio recording still is used to introduce Jeter before each at-bat at home by the Yankees captain.

George Steinbrenner dead at 80
www.espn.com wrote:Longtime New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died Tuesday morning, his family confirmed in a statement.

"It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing. He passed away this morning in Tampa, Fla., at age 80," the family said in a statement.

"He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family -- his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren.

"He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again."

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
