1. Papillion, NE
Livability.com wrote:Known for excellent schools, a successful agriculture industry and diverse economy, Papillion, NE, also has the lowest unemployment rate and one of the lowest crime rates of any city on this list.

More than 28 percent of Papillion is park space including 12 city parks, athletic fields and complexes, a city-wide trail system, and The Papio Bay Water Park. The city also operates two golf courses and a 105-acre lake stocked with fish.

The Omaha Storm Chasers, a minor league baseball team, plays in Papillion. While there are about 30 restaurants in Papillion, there are plenty more just minutes away in nearby towns. Nebraska Brewing Company, a favorite local watering hole, makes more than 12 beers. Among the best places to catch live performances from nationally known to local acts is the Sumtur Amphitheater at Walnut Creek, which has seating for more than 2,000 and hosts more than 80 events each year. There's also a small music venue in town called The Rock.

Each summer the city holds Papillion Days, a four-day celebration that includes a carnival, parade, road race, and lots of food and crafts. The nearby Offutt Air Force Base holds an annual Open House and Air Show widely attended by Papillion and Sarpy County residents. The city of Papillion hosts several small events throughout the year including movie nights at neighborhood parks.

When Californians swarmed into Colorado, Colorado changed for the worse.  When they swarmed into Santa Fe, prices went so high that electricians, nurses, and other sollidly middle class professionals could no longer afford to live there.   All along it became less like New Mexico.   To the point were you could close your eyes and randomly pick a mexican place from the Omaha phone book and get a better meal.

I like seeing us grow, but only with people who want to join us and become one of us, not people who move here and think of us as quaint backwoods people to be amused at while bitching that you just cant get the double skinny soy latte decaf esspresso like they could in LA.

I, strangely, don't believe you're going to see Californians flock to Papillion like they did to Santa Fe and Colorado. Call it a crazy hunch.

The Californians will tell you that it was all the mid-westerners too cool for school who swarmed to California that ruined California.

Besides, I don't think anyone is going to uproot from California to move to Papillion to amuse at "quaint backwood people".

Lol, agreed.  The hot relocation spots right now are Idaho and certain parts of Montana, Nebraska need not worry.

That Papillion could even be on a list of the top small towns in the country (so named by a website that purports to be an authority on "livability"), let alone to come in at number one, says volumes about this country and the quality of even our "best" communities.
"The right to have access to every building in the city by private motorcar in an age when everyone possesses such a vehicle is actually the right to destroy the city."

"It's impossible for someone to have a different view of what constitutes "livability!!"  I don't like living there...so nobody does!!!  Bwahahahahahahaha!!!"

LOL.  This is just comical now.  You can't be a real person.  It's got to be a made up personality for SNL or something.
Equal Opportunity Hater.

Proudly oppressing the rest of Omaha with my suburbia lifestyle since 1999.
