Anyone that thinks David Cross is a hack loses all credibility with me.

What was that old place on Jones in the old market? It was smaller, probably room for 70 or so people, with a small stage. I remember going there a few times, and they  usually had some decent talent. Except this one guy, I remember sitting there while he explained to me and the rest of the crowd why he wanted to bang my girlfriend. It would have been funnier, but he wasn't even telling jokes, just that he wanted to bang my girlfriend. Maybe that is the funny part, idk. anyway, I don't think that place is open anymore.

Ah. I know these rankings are always to be taken worth a grain of salt, but since moving to Chicago I've taken up improv as a hobby and was hoping to see the hometown have a better showing.

He doesn't. The article's author is also named David Cross. The "no-talent |expletive|-clown" line is a reference to the movie Office Space where there's a character named Michael Bolton who hates hearing references to the singer but doesn't believe he should have to alter his name because the singer is "the one who sucks" and that it was a perfectly fine name until "that no talent |expletive|-clown started making songs." David Cross the author said he "wishes" he could call David Cross the comedian a "no talent |expletive|-clown" for similar reasons but since he is a fantastic comedian, he can't.

I was definitely skimming.  Still think it is strange to judge comedy by a formula.  Like I assume they don't count The Waiting Room as a comedy club, but they have had a number of great comedians perform there the past year.
