NU, CU Med Centers' economic impact tops ranking
The analysis, made public Thursday, estimated the direct impact of the NU Medical Center and Creighton University Medical Center at $1.8 billion per year.
Compared with the economic impact of medical schools in other states with populations between 1 million and 3 million, Nebraska was the leader. The other states: Rhode Island, $1.7 billion; New Hampshire, $1.5 billion; West Virginia, $1.2 billion; New Mexico, $950 million; Hawaii, $242 million; and Nevada, $200 million. (Idaho and Montana do not have medical schools.)
Compared with cities with similar metro-area populations, the Omaha impact was No. 2 behind the $2.9 billion impact of the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham.

So #2 to UAB, where literally, most of downtown Birmingham was bought and given to the med school as an urban renewal project. Not bad.
