Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
I am from a small town in western Iowa and I know many people who moved to CB and not Omaha.
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
Just apparently not enough to help it see growth, commensurate with the rest of the metro. Come on CB... you need to pull your weight, bring us some Dallas County type numbers.
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
No thank you. We like it here just like it is. Is growth so great??? I love not having the congestion. I have had both, prefer it here.
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
If I want Dallas County growth, I would move, no thank you.
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
If you are so worried about CB, then move here.

OMA-->CHI-->NYC
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
Questions for realestate people's who have access to the MLS database. Trying to get a pulse on the housing market, it can give some insight into population growth momentum.

Npdodge.com shows number of total listings on their page for ne and ia. You can select which area you prefer (council bluffs, western iowa, or iowa, for example) and it will return total number of listings for which area you specify. Since those numbers are based on the MLS and not just npdodge listings, i assume that it is fairly close to accurate. What it wont tell you, however, is how that number compares to previous years to be used as a good basis for comparison.

KC is scared!! .

The Omaha Storm Chasers are the top minor league team for the Kansas City Royals. Face it: That’s how many Kansas Citians think of Omaha — as a stepping-stone city, at a tier below our “major league” status.
But as new U.S. Census Bureau estimates reveal, Omaha could surge past Kansas City in population in the next decade or even earlier.
Omaha is gaining about 6,000 people a year, and had an estimated population of 446,599 as of July 1, 2014.
Kansas City is adding people, too, but just 2,750 annually, and was at 470,800 residents last year.
The rise of Omaha compared to Kansas City is just one of the unsettling facts I found in the Census estimates released this month.

I agree with you but San Francisco is a very large city by itself. It is the 13th largest in the US with a population of 852,469MTO wrote:KC metro 2,393,623 Omaha metro 931,788 they aren't scared of us.. If cores mattered cities like Atlanta and San Francisco wouldn't have any pro teams.....

I know it's dumb. Don't know why they even let that get to print.

Oh my bad it's been years since I looked at those specific stats but you get my point.skinzfan23 wrote:I agree with you but San Francisco is a very large city by itself. I think Omaha and KC are an interesting comparison because Omaha core has been more vibrant than KC's for a while. It'll be interesting to see what affect a strong vs weak urban core will have on these cities in 20 years.
I'm tickled that KC feels threatened by Omaha.

Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
Des Moines has some great growth, especially in the suburbs and a fantastic looking downtown for a city of 200,000 (600,000 metro) but I don't think Omaha has to be threatened by it at all. At least with the caliber of national sporting events and Berkshire meetings that Omaha gets, Des Moines doesn't have anything that comes close except for the state fair.
Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
It sounded from the Grow Omaha show the city is researching and preparing to make a conceded effort into growing faster. Nothing was mentioned as to how, let's just hope it's even possible. They said they've consulted some peer cities that they'd like to aspire to i.e. Orlando. Perhaps they should consult with DSM given they are geographically similar and so forth, not in Florida.

Re: 2014 Census estimates this week-
Yuck. Why on earth would we want to emulate Orlando? Don't they have one of the lowest per capita incomes for a major city because it's all low-paying service industry jobs? Not the way I'd want to draw population....MTO wrote:It sounded from the Grow Omaha show the city is researching and preparing to make a conceded effort into growing faster.
