Big money takes care of its own in the heart of the country.

Nebraska’s largest city, on the banks of the Missouri River and a couple hundred miles removed from the geographic center
of the contiguous United States, has always carved its own path in the heart of the country. That sense of nose-to- the-grindstone and local stewardship is immortalized in the name: “Against the current.” It’s why Omaha leads all Small Cities in our Prosperity category, led by the most Fortune 500 companies in the nation for cities under a million. Berkshire Hathaway, Union Pacicific Railroad, Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc. and (of course) the Mutual of Omaha Companies all call Omaha home. The result is a curated waterfront, robust public art and a resilient downtown boasting some of the Midwest’s most impressive restaurants and nightlife, getting more diverse with every Old Market District opening. Omaha nished #8 among Small Cities for Programming, led by its #4 Culinary and #5 Nightlife sub-category rankings and funded and appreciated by prosperous residents and supported by the corporate headquarters that have called the city home for decades. The city’s middle-of- the-pack Place ranking is also poised to rise in the future, with the evolution of its riverfront and planned urban projects inspired by the strikingly elegant $22-million pedestrian bridge, which not only gets residents to and fro but is often a destination perch from which to admire the open spaces and those life-af rming Nebraska skies.
Omaha has been named one of the best cities in America by Resonance Consultancy, a real estate, tourism, and economic development advisory company. During an awards ceremony in New York presented by National Geographic Travel on June 14th, the top 10 cities were announced. Omaha ranked fourth highest among 50 U.S. cities with a population of less than one million.

“This ranking reflect the comments we hear consistently from our meeting attendees,” said Keith Backsen, Executive Director for Visit Omaha. “More than 12 million people visit each year and Omaha continues to grow as a leisure and meeting destination offering unique attractions, restaurants and events.”

The top 50 cities were determined based on six criteria that included: the quality of arts, culture, restaurants and nightlife; key institutions, attractions and infrastructure; economic prosperity; and promotion via stories, references and recommendations shared online.

“When you look at the top 10 cities, Omaha is in very good company,” added Backsen.

Exciting to see the River City getting its due recognition, but tbh I'm surprised we don't see Des Moines on that list. Seems like it lacks a bit of credibility with an omission like that...
