Fortune 500 for 2006 out...

Post by Big E »

Five NE companies (Berkshire (#13), ConAgra, UP, Kiewit, Mutual):

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/ ... tes/N.html

Three more in top 1000 (Wener, Cabela's, West Corp).

Seven of eight in Omaha! Yay.

It's good to see Kiewit back in the F500 fold..

Omaha is back to having 5 F500 companies..

Not bad for a metro of 850,000 :) ..

Omaha represents .8% of the country's Fortune 500 with only roughly .33% of the country's population. Not a bad ROI!

And big E, that's actually a full 1% or 1 of every 100 f500 companies with our propulation made up of less than 1 of every *300* .

That has to be the biggest % in the country right?
I also thin KC is losing one of those.

Sprint is leaving KC (actually in Kansas though) for DC. H&R Block is the only one they have left.

I believe that Omaha is second behind Bethesda, MD, who also has 5, IIRC... Of course they are in the DC metro, so we probably have the best % on a metro (not city) basis...

And is this the first time that West is in the Fortune 1000?

This great news. We can boast our 5 fortune companies again. I hated saying we should have 5, but lost one. Well, we got it back! 8)

Good grief Mutual! That's right on the edge. I hope it doesn't go back to 4 F500s. I think I know the reason we slipped so far but I can't tell you all.

They're almost solely an inbound company, meaning they write the systems and hire people to answer phones for companies, but do very little (if any) outbound AFAIK...

Omaha is in good company. Check this list of cities with at least 5 F500 companies:

New York - 44 Fortune 500 company HQ's
Houston - 23
Atlanta - 14
Dallas - 11
Chicago - 10
Charlotte - 7
Cincinnati - 7
Minneapolis - 7
Philadelphia - 7
Richmond - 7
St Louis - 7
Milwaukee - 6
Pittsburgh - 6
San Francisco - 6
Cleveland - 5
Columbus - 5
Denver - 5
Omaha - 5
San Antonio - 5
Seattle - 5..

Like I said before, not bad for a metro of 850,000! ..

Keeping in mind... that list is ignoring a significant number of F500 companies which are in those cities respective metropolitan areas (example: Denver metro actually has 10).

That said, it's impressive that Omaha has so many in it's core. :)

That's true. I didn't even notice LA wasn't on the list, thanks for pointing that.

Anyone see that Berkshire has climbed 5th most since 1996 where it was at 292. It has climbed an amazing 272 places in 10 years!

It wouldn’t shock me if there was more F500s in OC than LA.

Fortune 500 for 2008 includes four Nebraska companies:

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/ ... es/NE.html

11. Berkshire Hathaway (less than $700 million separating them from the Top 10)
154. UP
210. ConAgra
385. Kiewit

525. MofO (dropped out of Top 500)

TD Ameritrade, Cabela's, Nelnet, West, and Werner make appearances in the Top 1000.

Myth and Urban Wine Company missed the list, although I'm certainly doing my part to get them on there. :;):

Yes, all that money they pay me now to NOT work there is really killing them.

I certainly did my part at Myth last Friday to get them into the F500 range. :)
