Plenty of job security and a bonzer pension plan.  What's not to love?

- Low starting pay. (Actually low pay pretty much all around)

- Chronically understaffed

- Cruiser fleet that is old and falling apart

- City Council who seems to think OPD should be the first place to cut

Oh and that great pension plan they were getting is all but gone now.

Don't get me wrong, OPD is a great department to work for (hence one of the main reasons I'm leaving Florida to come back home) but it's certainly not all sunshine and kittens over there.

Well, they've still got it far better than the rest of us in the real world... but at least they've given up some ground on the ridiculous retirement age... pushing it to a slightly more reasonable 50... and purportedly have eliminated spiking.

Update: Council Amends Police Contract

The Omaha City Council said Monday it wants significant, but fair changes to the proposed contract between the city and the Omaha Police Union. All six members indicated they are speaking with one voice in asking for the changes.

They're smoking crack with those amendments, and the police union will almost certainly not accept this deal.

The city council is going to keep |expletive| around and cost this city a whole bunch of money.

Nevermind, I know you're not worth arguing on this particular topic.

I'm anxiously awaiting the result of todays CC meeting.

Police Contract With Amendments Goes Back To Union
WOWT wrote:There are five main amendments to the contract. The first one changes the contract from a five-year deal to three-year deal. The city would increase its pension contribution an additional 9.8 percent of an officer's pay. The union would have to add 2.2 percent in cash, up from less than a percent.
