Nebraska 2009 estimate: 1,796,619

Post by Erik »

After the annual (every year this decade) downward revision of previous estimates the state

    2009       2008          2007        2006         2005        2004         2003          2002          2001 2000 Estimates Base Census

1,796,619 1,781,949 1,769,912 1,760,435 1,751,721 1,742,184 1,733,680 1,725,083 1,717,948 1,713,345 1,711,265 1,711,263
Last decade they under-estimated our population by 30,000...

My guess is the next 3/4 year should reflect another 9,000 people to 1,805,000 and then tack on a 'minimum' of 20,000 for the usual undercounting and my guess is the state should be at 1,825,000..  with a max of 1,840,000..  I'm going to go with some-where between 1.825 - 1.832 million for the 2010 census..

Kind of sad when you consider that Phoenix added significantly more than our entire states population in the last 2 decades alone.  Could be worse I guess... we could be North or South Dakota.

Without Omaha Nebraska is South Dakota without the tourist attraction and North Dakota without the cold. :)

The population isn't growing because of your misleading signature photo. ;)

Yeah, I put it up at the time there was a very long, drawn-out debate.. I just haven't found a good replacement yet..

Following that logic, then couldn't also be said that without Nebraska, Omaha would have been destined to be a suburb of Council Bluffs?

It's really sad to see how many people jump to the conclusion that our growth estimate is from illegal immigrants...  :?

We had over 4,000 people migrate to nebraska internationally and I highly doubt that they are counting illegals.. (illegals rarely report their earnings nor do they buy houses.. etc...)..

Well, maybe the 11,000+ natural growth occurried illegally (out of wedlock?  I'm sure that is illegal in most of the backwards counties in Nebraska)..

I doubt it will be a very big "jump".  More on the line of 1% or less.

Fremont: 32,540 -0.1%
A testament to the role of illegal immigration in our recent growth.  A suggestion for Fremont... EMBRACE THEM.

LOL..

It's more like "Embrace them Fremont, you're leaving anyways!"..

Man, I grew to despise that city growing up..

A friend of mine is interviewing for an internship at the pork processing plant in Fremont doing some sort of industrial maintenance (he's an Electrical Engineering student).  He claims there are "epic" trailer parks there.

Fremont has several trailer parks around the city.  And there are a couple of them that make you wonder the percentage of them that have meth labs, crack labs etc..

The city has a couple of nice neighborhoods, but it is they who run the town and the ones that chased out good industry for decades.  They run the politics of the city and corruption is evident in that city.

I hope it changes if it hasn't already.

The Lariat on old 275 was a pre-fab steel warehouse.  Now its a sports bar of some kind.

Not sure about the old Boomers.  Long gone before I came around.

Even the strip club here in Urbana is in an old auto repair garage.  It's obvious because it's an old brick building, and they just framed in the service doors withs studs and plywood siding.  Oh, then they painted the plywood bright green: very classy!
