HELP: Apartment and Internet/Cable Provider Suggestions
Hello,
I have just accepted a job offer working in North Omaha near the Reserve at the Knolls. My husband and I have been looking at min of 2 bedroom apartments and town homes (I'll just say apartments from now on) in the area. The big points for us are close to my job, at least 2 bedroom (a bedroom and office), a decent kitchen (no galley style), a good sized living room (gamers gotta have room for that big screen), and washer dryers in apartment or hookups available.
EDIT: After talking a bit more we both decided we'd prefer a townhome or duplex over an apartment.
I'm writing to ask for suggestions regarding whether there are any apartments or areas we should avoid and perks of any good apartments. I think my max for rent is probably around $900, but if we can find something that fits my needs cheaper all the better.
Some of the apartments I've checked out online so far are:
Country Estates Townhomes
Bluffs at Cherry hills townhomes
Regarding internet, I am leaning towards Cox because their website provides much better information than Comcast's

I delivered food to all of these complexes for 4 years so I've seen both the clientele and the Maintenance quality of these as well..GnowledgedGnome wrote:Hello,

Some of the apartments I've checked out online so far are:
Maple Ridge.. iffy : 3 bedrooms
Fox Ridge.. No
Fox Valley.. No
Country Estates Townhomes.. No
New Towne West Apartments.. Yes
Camelot Village Apartments.. Yes
Eagle Run Apartments.. Yes
Schwalb Reailty duplex (?? not a lot of info on their site)
Bluffs at Cherry hills Townhomes.. No
Oakwood Trails.. Yes

Also, we will need to start considering which internet/cable provider to use. Where we live now we have Mediacom included with the apartment and we agree we wouldn't pay to have their service with the issues that occur on a regular basis.
I would also recommend:
Kensington Woods Apartments
Old Mill Apartments Apartments
Lionshead Apartments
Highland Park Apartments
Hillsborough Apartments
These are around the same area as the ones you listed above so I hope this at least gives you more information to research..
Century Link just started providing Internet Services here in town but Cox has been providing Cable/Internet for as long as I can remember and seems to be very reliable with good customer service. I would recommend pricing out which one you can get a better deal with since they seem to offer similar speeds/packages..
Apartments are a |expletive| shoot. It more or less comes down to who your immediate neighbors are. Top bottom, left right, across the hall. Pretty much, you can always expect some a-hole neighbor who's getting their first taste of freedom... and we all know how well that works out.

My family has had Cox for phone, cable, and internet for a while. Their prices and service are alright. We actually had made an appointment with Century Link to come out and talk to us or whatever about getting their services online, but they never showed up and they never called. So my dad said screw it and we kept Cox.

Do you have specific reasons for not liking the two townhomes listed or is it just an overall run down/grungy feel?guitarguy wrote:I delivered food to all of these complexes for 4 years so I've seen both the clientele and the Maintenance quality of these as well..GnowledgedGnome wrote:Hello,

Bluffs of Cherry Hills.. feels like your car is going to get broken into sitting at night time and also feels like there must be drugs getting dealt out of the parking lot..
Country Estates.. the apartment complex is not bad itself but the people living there are sketchy and its also very close to more than one apartment complex that has serious crime concerns
If these are two of the cheaper options on your list there is a reason why they are cheaper  8)
Feel free to ask about other complexes I've been to all of them

They are not at all cheaper. I was more interested in those than the others. I'm sad to hear they have problems. It's hard to find an apartment with a decent kitchen. Even the really big ones have itty bitty kitchens >.<guitarguy wrote:Bluffs of Cherry Hills.. feels like your car is going to get broken into sitting at night time and also feels like there must be drugs getting dealt out of the parking lot..

There isn't much to rent townhome/duplex wise that I've seen in that area.

I am definitely open to renting a home, Since I'm looking long distance (2.5 hours away) it's just more difficult to chose homes to look at when we get to point of actually touring stuff.guitarguy wrote:Have you considered looking into renting a home? This area of the city has a ton of home rentals that are darn close to the price range you have..
