Farmers Market?

Post by leu »

Looks like a good forum with lots of interesting information and discussion.  I would like to jump in with my first post and a question.

After working and living out of state for 25 years I am looking to possibly relocate back to the Omaha area, specifically downtown.  Although I have come back for short visits through the years, things have obviously changed a lot, especially downtown.  In deciding where in the area to live I did a search of this site for certain amenities and didn't find anything about a weekend produce  market.  Can anyone tell me if one exists or there are plans for one or more?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Leu

P.S.

Guess I am getting old.  As a kid,  I remember going with my Dad to buy watermelon at the Market downtown, before it became "Old"!

Another one is downtown Council Bluffs every Saturday morning.  Wasn't there one at Village Pointe last year as well?

There was one in front of the Whole Foods at Village Pointe - I wonder if that will continue though.

My understanding is that from Spring to Fall there is a farmers' market in the Old Market every Wednesday and Saturday.

The Old Market Farmers Market starts up again May 5.   Its located at 11th and Jackson, across the street from Upstream.  They used to run Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings, but it looks like they may have cut out the Wednesday times this year.

Produce selection isn't real great early in the season, so it tends to be more crafts, but once harvest gets going, I hardly ever buy fruits/veggies in a grocery store....

Edit: sorry, joeycheeto for duplicating your post.  I should probably read through the thread before posting, shouldn't I? :;):

There was a farmer's market last year infront of McFoster's (38th and Farnam), but I'm not sure if they're going to keep doing it.

They should just pop the locks on the Wild Oats building and have their farmers market in there... although that might undermine the charm of the outdoor setting they have out there. :)
