Places to take a hike

Post by Coyote »

I have a friend who just moved to Omaha from Las Vegas and is looking for nice places around the area to take a day hike.
Besides Fontenelle Forest (entrance fee), Mahoney State Park (entrance fee), Neale Woods (can't remember if there is a fee), Chalco Hills, Zorinsky, Walnut Creek, and the Loess Hills - what do we have in the local area that provides a scenic or challenging hike?

Hitchcock Nature Preserve - nice place, but does cost $2 per car to enter.  Also bring your mosquito repellent.
Preparation Canyon - nice place
where the corn meets the concrete

You can easily get lost in nature in Fontenelle Forest.  We walked there last Sunday.  Now, with spring coming on, it is a beautiful, secluded place.
