Downtown HDR Corporate Headquarters

The suspense for this low-rise is quite impressive!
So, it's HDR, so lots of glass and trapezoids, right?

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
I am not counting 16 floors more like 14 but it says 16 in the article.
Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
Looks a bit more understated than what I expected. The side kind of reminds me of the Woodmen tower. It will be a nice addition to Omaha's skyline though. Looks like it is well-detailed.

Maybe I will think differently in the future, but for now I am just laughing. Looks like another rectangular, boxy building. Nothing earth-shattering.
By the way I am also only counting 14/15 floors.

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
I like it. Modern yet not over the top. Also Ford Lofts does not completely loose its western views. And the shadow will actually be quite nice on the roof deck in the summer. I expect we will spend much more time up there.

Someone complains that it's not taller in 3, 2, 1.....
Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
TD Ameritrade Part Deux.
IMO, very unimpressive for all the hype, and another addition to the wall of thin, rectangular, East-West oriented, flat top buildings along Dodge. Although technically yes, it will change the skyline, but it is certainly not a building that will help Omaha's skyline stand out in any way.
Any renderings of the north side showing the 1,100 stall parking garage?

Again, this is replacing a cement lot, this is a massive upgrade, I love it.
Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
Anyone else notice how the tower could semingly fit along the north side of the block that the Specht/Happy Hollow/Alvine buildings are on?

LOL.. Inevitably, we'll see some of that for sure..Greg S wrote:Someone complains that it's not taller in 3, 2, 1.....
I think the building rendering looks fantastic, it will really help round out the skyline..especially with the additions of the 14 story Marriott and 12 story mixed use projects right down the street.. There are similar sized metros in the 900,000 to 1 million range that would DROOL over the prospects of this happening in their downtowns..
I've said it once and I'll say it again- this is an exciting time to live in Omaha, Nebraska.. This city is coming into its own right before our eyes..

I love that part as well, but I wish the design could have been closer to some of their other buildings that we have previously posted.Linkin5 wrote:Again, this is replacing a cement lot, this is a massive upgrade, I love it.
Wonder why those are the only 2 renderings released. Can we at least get one showing the main portion of the building instead of a side-shot. It is hard to tell if the top south eastern edge rises up taller than the rest of the building.

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
I was hoping for some kind of spire or other rooftop element to give it a little more interest (and height). The materials are going to make or break this building, I have faith that it isn't going to be just your standard glass walls.Greg S wrote:Someone complains that it's not taller in 3, 2, 1.....

To be fair there are height restrictions..Joe_Sovereign wrote:I was hoping for some kind of spire or other rooftop element to give it a little more interest (and height). A 2d rendering probably isn't doing the design justice. It will probably look more impressive in real life.

There's been a 16 story limit imposed ever since the UPRR.

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
There are height restrictions downtown for areas within the runway approaches to Eppley. For example, the pylons on the Bob Kerrey bridge were limited to about 250'. But the HDR site is far enough away from the approaches that it would probably not limit the height to less than 500-600'Omaha Cowboy wrote:There are no height restrictions downtown.. I'm sure budget and need were the limiting factors.

Right.. But like you said, not really for the central business district nor where HDR is building their headquarters..,GetUrban wrote:There are height restrictions downtown for areas within the runway approaches to Eppley. Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
The angled glass façade, and slatted sides are almost certainly for energy efficiency / LEED considerations. Not the most exciting design in the world, but it'll be nice to have the addition to the skyline, and another LEED certified building around town...

With the angle of the building and the addition of the Marriott hotel and apts in the Capitol District, this view will look a lot different in 2 1/2 - 3 years.

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
Not sure if we knew an expected start to the construction yet but according to KETV:
So if their timeline is similar to Shamrock's we should see another crane added to the skyline by this time next year.HDR expects to break ground in early summer, with the help of Omaha construction firm Kiewit, which will build the tower.
Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
Observation: HDR's garage will bring the total to 7 along Capitol Ave. from 19th to 10th. The Capitol District's appeal will be rather localized.
Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
I'm not sure how to feel about it. At least we know what it would have looked like to have TDA downtown.

Consideration should be given to changing the name of Capitol Ave. to Park(ing) Ave.mr. omaha wrote:Observation: HDR's garage will bring the total to 7 along Capitol Ave. from 19th to 10th. The Capitol District's appeal will be rather localized.

From that vantage HDR will be just to the left of Landmark Center with Capital District to the left of HDR. But both are closer so they'll be more prominent.Omaha Cowboy wrote:It sure will...skinzfan23 wrote:With the angle of the building and the addition of the Marriott hotel and apts in the Capitol District, this view will look a lot different in 2 1/2 - 3 years.

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
Just talked to a Lund Architect who saw the 5 renderings and he said that there were 3 that he knew were too eccentric for Omaha. But he said once we here the stories behind the slanted windows and the air circuation and other features we will be impressed with this design.

Looks good! Modern, but not in a way where it will age poorly. This is exciting.
I'm waiting for Erik to chime in to say he's developed some brand of depression because this building is just too rectangular and would never fly in Dubai.Omaha Cowboy wrote:LOL.. Inevitably, we'll see some of that for sure..Greg S wrote:Someone complains that it's not taller in 3, 2, 1.....

I like it a lot! I think the finished product will impress. Not growing our skyline up really but this pocket of growth is an impressive expansion of our density.
Who knows maybe Lanoha can surprise us and really get Capitol booming.

I'd take eccentric. Eccentric is what we need. Not like Gehry-level eccentric, but something groundbreaking... I'll reserve further judgement until I see other angles.
