I hope we can get something rebuilt at that site.

Has anyone heard any word on the saving of the buildings shell? I walking by, it doesn't appear that it is leaning or crumbling anywhere.

While driving across the 10th St bridge yesterday I saw what looked to be a new sign hanging from the remains of the building that said "9ines Lofts - Model Open". Has this sign been there all along and I have just missed it or are the original plans still on and they are actually showing model units to prospective buyers??

Perhaps there's something new... but I seem to recall one of the banners came through the fire amazingly untouched.

I'm extremely glad that the shell hasn't fallen yet. It seems to look ok, but there's more to consider than that. I heard that the high temperatures of the fire may have weekened some of the bricks. They will have to do structural tests before we know anything more, I'm sure.

For some reason, I thought this building was done. I didn't realize it was still just a shell.

It was a shell 5 years ago - now it is an empty lot.

Well. I'm really behind on this one!

I am really surprised nothing has ever come of this lot.  I wish they could have saved the shell and built new inside.

Lawsuits out the |expletive| are keeping anything from going there.

I don't see why lawsuits having to do with the Butternut Building would be a major hindrance to going forward with a project on the site.

I'm sure Christensen is sitting on the land waiting for the right time to start HIS Wallstreet Tower Omaha.

Would there be any height restrictions put on a future building at that location?

I have no idea, but I don't see why there would be.

I was told that the old market has lobbied for restrictions in the area during past projects.

Have lobbied, sure, but I don't think anything has been enacted. Besides, this is not in the Old Market.

A 9 story luxury apartment building burns down and no one knows the cause? Any insurance company is not going to pay out without a reason and if they knew who to point the fingers at they still wouldn't pay. This land will be tied up in legal problems for years.

If memory serves me correct, embers from a welder fell down the elevator shaft and smoldered starting the fire.

Well, I guess that would be the "official" story.

Heh, I just noticed that Google maps still shows the burned out shell of this building, it's kinda trippy seeing down into it without any roof or even the floors.

That why google maps is not a good choice.  Google maps uses 2004 imagery.

You should use bing.com which uses 2008 or dogis.org which uses a combination of 2008 downtown and 2007 in west Omaha.

Yeah I'm surprised how out of date the satellite imagery is, especially seeing that they just updated the StreetView in my area again last summer.

I wish Google Maps/Earth would at least show the image date on their photos.  Like most satellite image hosts, they buy their images from someone else, and I imagine it's expensive to keep them updated with the latest available images.

Terraserver http://www.terraserver.com/home.asp not only shows the date of their images, but also has a list of available images for over the last 10 years.  I have found it useful for viewing changes in a site over time (of course, you have to pay for anything more than the small, low-resolution images with watermarks).
