Condo Project even Eomaha doesn't know about?

Post by OmahaDevelopmentMan »

When reading the article on the condo boom in DTO, there was a link to a page that listed all of the condo projects in downtown Omaha. I knew all but one of them. One of them was called Olde Village Square and is located on 9th and Leavenworth. I had never heard anything about this project.
Here's the link http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_np=0&u ... id=1270046.

Anyone know anything about this project?

Actually most of us probably WERE aware of it (I was). Anyone who has driven down Leavenworth under the 10th Street bridge...has seen the little two story strip of brick warehouse building which has had the 'Olde Village Square' banner on it long before the Butternut renovation even began. I guess I had been slow to create a project page for it... because I had absolutely no information on it... aside from that banner. Rest assured... I'll be exploiting this new information! :)

I recall someone asking on the chamber website YEARS ago... how they could create condos from that sad little strip of bricks... well, I guess that question has been answered.

Thanks for sharing this!

I guess thats why I wasn't aware of it because I don't get downtown much. Why is it stalled since the Butternut Building fire?

In the article today bout downtowns condo boom it mentions this:

"They will remember, for example, the 22-story apartment tower and parking garage at 10th and Harney Streets that was announced in 1992 and abandoned in 1994, apparently because the Minneapolis developer couldn't arrange financing."

Does anyone have a pic of this?

I would bet alot of money that the next downtown building we get will be a residential tower(now that a casino is ruled out of the picture).

I was looking at proqust.com today(an online newspaper archive site) and it sounds like plans were never finished for the building. It sounds like they has 90% of the financing in line but just ran out of time.

I also had a little fun and read some articles about UPC and what was with the shrinking to 19 stories from 25? I couldn't find a reason. It basically sounded like they were set on 25 for ever and bam up announces plans for 19 story headquarter.

Tuna?

That would be a cool project for that land.  I hope it and the butternut site get going one of these days!

Those are the types of buildings I wish would fill up North Downtown.

Actually, this is one we could probably move to the dead projects area.
