WOWT reported at 10PM that Papillion is in negotiations to take over LaVista's Volunteer Fire Department. They stated that there might be an announcement as soon as this Friday (March 8th).

I saw that story.  I was kind of surprised, but I guess it makes sense economically.  They don't have redundant costs of running two very similar fire departments right next to each other.

They're probably at the point in growth and call volume where they have to do something to keep their ISO rating. If LaVista and Papillion fire merge and LaVista is now 100% paid, it's probably a bummer for those volunteers who are on the department to have light bars and sirens on their cars.

That didn't surprise me. It sounds like a win/win situation for everyone.

It's amazing that this can happen here... having just left NY and seeing how things work there I can say without a doubt this is impossible there. Definitely a Win Win for both cities..

I wonder what Ralston is going to do in terms of mutual aid? Right now Ralston and LaVista often get paged out on each other's calls.

So only 30 days away from the mergin of La Vista and Papillion for fire service. Do you think this is going to be a good thing? Is this going to put a standard out there for other smaller volunteer departments to go paid or join a paid department. I know in the past Omaha Fire had talked about a Douglas County fire department is this the first step toward a Sarpy County Fire Department?
