City of Omaha looking to turn parking over to private company

Parking ticket fines would still go to the schools if parking enforcement went private.

Where the money goes is irrelevant to my down vote.  Private enforcement of the law (however minor) is not a good thing.

If they do contract parking enforcement out, the private entity should be called "Omaha Community Parking" and use the OCP logo from Robocop.

I can't make up my mind of private law enforcement.

On one hand, it's a heck of a lot cheaper, and places a far lesser burden on tax payers. On the other hand, there's the whole "accountability" thing (personal and monetarily)...

If a public employee |expletive| up, and it involves a private citizen, it is usually other private citizens who pay - via taxes, whereas, when a privately employed officer screws up, himself and his employer are on the hook.

Now, when it comes to personal accountability, private employees may not be as well trained, nor experience the recourse a public employee would.
