Cool video.

It appears the original aircraft (the white one) is still operational as well.

I though they had several of the older white ones?

I didn't see any of the helicopters for quite a while but have seen one of them a couple times this summer.

If my memory serves me, the original helicopter was a surplus OH-58 Kiowa from the U.S Army that was converted to law enforcement use. I believe we received three airframes but only one was meant for duty, one was a reserve and the third was basically for spare parts. The third one was even left in its original Army green I believe.

The original white one has now been relegated to backup duty from what I can see. I know it was at the Miller Park celebration just recently.

There was a news story a few weeks back saying they were looking to replace it.

Is it the pilots or the choppers that are the weak link?
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!

I would blame it on maintenance staff first. Second I would blame it on Murphy's Law.

Not a huge fan of that livery but the N-number is pretty sweet.

Little too much of a puff piece for my taste. "It's a lot of money, but it's worth it!" with no equal time for the many people who would question a broke city spending $3 million on a helicopter. I'm not even saying I don't think it's a good investment, but the news allowing itself to be used that way is gross.

It is also kind of odd timing to run a story on the "new" ~year-old helicopter when it isn't even in Omaha right now, for unknown, presumably maintenance related reasons.

I believe this gets Omaha back to 3 flying helicopters and whatever they have for parts helicopters.

I believe the 3 flying helicopters are N176PD, N402PD, and N240PD.

Bell Announces Delivery of Bell 505 to Omaha Police Department

https://news.bellflight.com/en-US/21283 ... department
Bell Textron Inc wrote:Omaha Police Department marks the ninth municipality in North America to rely on the Bell 505 to support law aerial enforcement operations since the first law enforcement configured Bell 505 delivery to Stockton Police Department in 2019.

“OPD has operated Bell aircraft for 25 years,” said Frank Peck, Chief Pilot for the Omaha Police Department's Air Support Unit. “In addition to our current fleet, the Bell 505 will add enhanced capabilities, specifically night vision capabilities, performance and safety, while also decreasing direct operator and maintenance cost.”
