Re: OPD Able One
Cool video.
It appears the original aircraft (the white one) is still operational as well.

I didn't see any of the helicopters for quite a while but have seen one of them a couple times this summer.

Re: OPD Able One
If my memory serves me, the original helicopter was a surplus OH-58 Kiowa from the U.S Army that was converted to law enforcement use. I believe we received three airframes but only one was meant for duty, one was a reserve and the third was basically for spare parts. The third one was even left in its original Army green I believe.Brad wrote:I though they had several of the older white ones?Bosco55David wrote:It appears the original aircraft (the white one) is still operational as well.

The original white one has now been relegated to backup duty from what I can see. I know it was at the Miller Park celebration just recently.

Re: OPD Able One
Is it the pilots or the choppers that are the weak link?

I would blame it on maintenance staff first. Second I would blame it on Murphy's Law.nebugeater wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 2:14 pm Is it the pilots or the choppers that are the weak link?

Re: OPD Able One
Little too much of a puff piece for my taste. "It's a lot of money, but it's worth it!" with no equal time for the many people who would question a broke city spending $3 million on a helicopter. I'm not even saying I don't think it's a good investment, but the news allowing itself to be used that way is gross.
Re: OPD Able One
It is also kind of odd timing to run a story on the "new" ~year-old helicopter when it isn't even in Omaha right now, for unknown, presumably maintenance related reasons.

Re: OPD Able One
I believe this gets Omaha back to 3 flying helicopters and whatever they have for parts helicopters.
I believe the 3 flying helicopters are N176PD, N402PD, and N240PD.
