So I stumbled upon this TED talk about city flags by Roman Mar whom also has an awesome podcast. But anyways I had to look up our flag and was mostly pleased with it especially after seeing some of those other city flags that look more like billboards. For the most part our flag fills the five basic principle of good flag design as he covers in his talk except for easy to draw. Personally I would change the stagecoach with what I'm not sure but what do you think of our city flag?

I like our city flag. I have thought about buying one before, but never muster up the effort to make the move.

I think it looks like a patch you would find on a Klan robe.

I'm just happy it doesn't have a Huskers logo on it, so it works for me.

It could do without the covered wagon.

Reminds me of those television test patterns you used to see when stations signed off at night.

Oh man that's clever, most apropos. I wonder if there's a list of the top selling vehicles in Omaha or most common in Omaha by hey have them for states and such. With the 150 being the best selling truck for years, all the construction here and being the heartland.. I bet there's enough for every single person to drive their own to and from a husker football game.

Chicago and DC have great flags.

I like Des Moines' flag a lot. Plays off their bridges downtown(that are going to be replaced with way worse versions sadly).

This is omaha's flag. It's the same as our nation's flag as well:

So I know this thread is a year old, but i figured I'd throw this up to see what people thought. I took the spokes from the old flag's wheel and repurposed it as an arrow of sorts showing Omaha's history as a stopping point as people headed west. (Gold rushers, Mormons, etc.) The Blue represents the river and the red, well, we are in Nebraska, of course it's red. This took me all of five mintues in photoshop and I think it fixes a few of the design flaws of our current flag.

Or this, same thing but emphasizing the pioneer wagon wheel. Plus, red white and blue are good flag colors...

Let me tell you a little bit about the man, and his adopted step-daughters Girl Scout troupe that designed this flag.
His family fled friend Germany. His uncles were killed for being Jewish sympathizers. His father/their family were given a chance because there were children involved. They came here legally and were political activists, yet never allowed to vote in any American race. Once he was old enough, he enlisted and fought for our country, was taken pow, took shrapnel to the heart, which he carried for the rest of his life. Still. After all of that, was never allowed to vote. In his life in Omaha, he had married, lost two wives, adopted all of their Children and loved them as his own, took his step-daughters to their girl scout meetings, did everything the ideal father would. He’d fed children from the st James orphanage, sponsored families and eventually married his dream gal. So please. Tell me again how this would be a great klan patch?!

S33 obviously made the comment about the styling of it, not the symbolism of it. I'm sure the creator of the flag would never have intended a flag for Omaha to be taken in that regard, symbolically.

And being familiar with S33’s style, you could throw in a good amount of sarcasm with the commentary.. But I agree..Sarcasm or no, it was a reaction to the styling..not the person..

I noticed that the city flag was flying at TD Ameritrade for CWS! It definitely doesn't look terrible, but it could do without the wagon symbol in the middle. They also felt the need to apply "City of Omaha" to the flag that was in the air at the stadium. I think it would be super cool if we started seeing the city flag flying more around town! It almost seems like a lot of people have more pride for Omaha than the state of Nebraska.

We can't forget about our Husker red though!

I agree with you that the city flag is a great expression of Civic pride. :-). I also agree that the covered wagon is a tired symbol that's used too much in the state. Leave it on the state highways signs and be done with it. An updated flag would be nice. It's love to see representations of the people the city named after. ;-)
