South Omaha neighborhood leader Kimara Snipe announces run for City Council

Kimara Snipe, president of the Highland South-Indian Hill Neighborhood Association and secretary of the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, announced Friday that she is seeking the District 4 seat on the Omaha City Council.
Snipe, a business consultant for Heartland Workforce Solutions, said in a press release that she hopes to be a strong liaison between South Omaha residents and city government.
Snipe plans a kickoff event and coat drive Thursday at the LaFern Williams YMCA, 3010 R St., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Both Garry Gernandt (District 4) and Franklin Thompson (District 6) are not running again, is that correct?

Correct. I am not sure of the candidates running for District 6.

Per Roseann Moring / World-Herald staff writer:

Ashford staffer seeking open South Omaha City Council seat

http://www.omaha.com/news/politics/ashf ... 73cbe.html
A staffer for U.S. Rep. Brad Ashford is seeking the open South Omaha City Council seat.

Jim Rogers, a former executive director of the Nebraska Democratic Party, announced his candidacy Wednesday.
Should be interesting. You have middle-aged white guy versus a woman who is non-white. Tony Vargas beat out Synoweicki for state senator. Well see how this race goes. South Omaha is definitely Omaha's most ethnically diverse area.

And who did the left-leaning Omaha World-Herald support in that race?

Vargas got better coverage, but not by a lot.

Actually, the World-Herald backed Synowiecki:

Editorial: Send Synowiecki, Wayne, Halloran and Davis to the Legislature

But I will concede your point that the Dems were behind Vargas. From the Omaha World-Herald:
Douglas County party flier intentionally excludes Democratic Legislature candidate John Synowiecki

Who is running to replace Franklin Thompson? Any betting action on whether any candidate makes it out west of 120th street?

I could see a push for an Elkhorn candidate.

Hey folks, over on Reddit we've got some 'Ask Me Anything' sessions lined up, the first one just posted. It's Brad Whitmore running for the district 2 seat (northeast Omaha). I invite you all to come and take a look!
