Classic. Nice studio response, not looking at the cameras... Hiding their laughter?

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
The slips keep on coming. Channel 6 newscaster Joe Chioto mangled the news story of the Supreme Court Chief Justice speaking of the dangers of unnecessary partisanship in congressional votes on new judges. He read it as unnecessary congressional "partnership." And he pronounced Justice Scalia's name as Scal-EE-ahh. Justice Scalia has been on the bench more than a quarter century. That ought to rate a correct pronunciation of his name by someone with a degree in journalism.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Actually, that is the accurate pronunciation of Scalia's name.nativeomahan wrote:The slips keep on coming. Oh please let this be true. You people that criticize any mistake made by LOCAL news channels are insane. Imagine if everything you do at work was available to see and criticized nativeomahan, give these guys a break.Garrett wrote:Actually, that is the accurate pronunciation of Scalia's name.nativeomahan wrote:The slips keep on coming. Didn't want to be that guy the other day but I also noticed that was the proper pronunciation.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
I have never heard any reporter ever pronounce Justice Scalia's last name the way the guy at channel 6 did. I guess all of the other reporters, both national and local, have been getting it wrong for the last 30 years.

Minor, yet still funny social media goof by KETV earlier today.

She was at the NBC affiliate out of Hastings before she went to Omaha. She wasn't the greatest out here.. A little goofy.thenewguy wrote:I watch channel 6 in the mornings. does anyone else think jordan schefte's visual aides are ridiculous as heck?
Live everyday to its fullest.. err.. just make sure your coffee cup is full. You should be good then.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
WOW loves the visual aids and they are most all useless and often really amateurish looking. Notes on sticky pads? Almost as goofy as Mike McKnights low camera angle one man shots.

I browsed through a few of his fact finder pieces and he does like to do that a lot, doesn't he?cdub wrote:Almost as goofy as Mike McKnights low camera angle one man shots.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
All of 6's cub reporters are enamored with props. Shefte is hardly the worst, Erin Murray is terrible with them and Moffitt is right up there, too.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
KETV's Adrian Whitsett is moving to an Orlando affiliate. Good for him, he was one of the better anchors in town.

Yeah I agree, he is one of the better young local news talents.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
He will definitely be missed
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
WOWT dropping their 4 PM newscast and changing their 6 PM newscast to an hour long.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
They dont even have enough substance to fill 30 minutes per newscast, let alone every day.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Joe Chiodo will be moving from weekends to anchor the 5pm with Malorie, then it's her and Knicely for the hour-long 6pm.
Re: Omaha Local News Channels
KETV now allows you to watch the most recent newscast from them on their website.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Their claims are many.
1) It takes a large amount of manpower to moderate their comments section.
2) The number of comments has dwindles.
3) The number of obscene and vile comments has risen.
4) They feel the time spent moderating the comments could be better spent bringing "you" more local news.
Let's think about this. The number of comments has dwindled yet it takes a large amount of manpower to moderate.
Read the entire episode as "We figured out we don't need the comments section and we can get rid of the moderators and pocket a few more nickels." Money, money, money!

Never have I once read the comments section of any news article. Life is just happier that way.NovakOmaha wrote:Their claims are many.

I agree; aside from some of the more sophisticated publications (The Atlantic is one that comes to mind), I've rarely read a news site comment that added anything to the discussion.Brad wrote:Really? According to Matthew Smith at WOWT, the area around 156th and Q is part of Gretna:

It most certainly is not in Gretna.

That was awesome. It's always best when a news anchor/reporter owns their gaffs, rather than try to sneak past it. Either way, embarassing for him, I'm sure.skinzfan23 wrote:Wow, here is a nice one from Channel 6 that made it on Jimmy Fallon last night:

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Whats up with the reporting on this Senator getting attacked in the restroom and having his leg broken while he was down at Blatt Beer and Table on Wednesday. Is the media conspiring to play this down to avoid bad pub during the CWS or is there something about this story they are not telling us. I smell a rat for sure somewhere in this. I don't remember seeing this story told in the World Herald at all. The news stations report this story almost like the Senators version of the story in in doubt. I think they are saying the Senator was standing at the urinal and someone ran up and bashed him in his leg and broke it and he did not see who did it. I dont know if the media is playing this down for the CWS or the Senator is lying but I do know that 2+2 is adding up to 5 here. I tend to lean towards the idea that the Senator is telling the truth and the media is trying to play this down so CWS affiliated businesses dont loose money.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Could just be poor writing. I think that most of the media is reporting that the state seantor was Nancy Kerriganed. KETV states that the bar is questioning whether it was an assault, due to the lack of witnesses or security cameras.

Thanks. I went and looked and it was a very short article buried on the second page of the second section of the newspaper. Here we have a paper that often has 2 kids selling lemonade on the front page and when a state Senator is attackeded at a venue next to the biggest event in the City the story is buried on a back page. "Nancy Kerriganed!" Oh the humanity. Oh why oh why oh why oh why. Maybe he slipped on some urine on the floor and didn't want to own it. Who knows but I think the Senator and his broken leg are getting swept under the rug.
