I'm curious.. If the companies on the Fortune private list became public, would they make the 500 list?

Companies like Kiewit, First Data?

And would any of our existing drop off?

Right, but merely for discussion sake on where they would land as they are a very very large employer once based here.

Greg makes a good point as well, I wonder if any of our current ones would fall off.

Nebraska is 'lucky' and 'winning,' Fortune Magazine says in latest 500 ranking
citing the growth local Fortune 500 companies have shown in revenue, employment and market capitalization in the past 20 years.

Nebraska and eight other states have “truly shined,” Fortune said, since 1995, the year the magazine adjusted its annual ranking to include service companies, such as Walmart, in addition to industrial firms.

The other eight “lucky” states were California, Texas, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, Washington, Arkansas and Wisconsin.
As a side note:
Nebraska has 11 Fortune 1000 companies. Iowa only has 5.

In the Fortune 1000 from Nebraska were Cabela’s Inc. (646), Valmont Industries Inc. (682), Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. (721), TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (772), West Corp. (787) and Werner Enterprises Inc. (963).

Ethanol producer Green Plains expands its office space as its sales shoot up
After nearly three years in Regency and additional hires, Green Plains Inc. has expanded into new space at its existing headquarters, as sales and profits have leaped at the producer of ethanol and byproducts.

The company first moved into the 450 Regency building in the summer of 2011.
Revenue has more than doubled since 2009, to $3 billion last year.
That much in annual revenue puts the 2004 startup ahead of long-established Nebraska companies such as Werner Enterprises, West Corp. and TD Ameritrade. Profit from 2009 through last year also more than doubled, to $43 million.

Also interesting and it was only mentioned once, but Green Plains was a player in the 70th and Cass Apartments debacle to make their new HQ there. Clearly they are expanding and a building the size of the one they are in might not hold them over for very long. Also found it interesting that they were looking east for their new office, maybe a possible player at Crossroads in a couple years?

New Fortune 500 list announced. Obviously only 4 in the city now.

5 other companies in the top 1000, but only two seemingly could get us back to 5 over the next decade. Green Plains ranked 662 and TD Ameritrade ranked 674.

And Green Plains has gone on record as saying they want to be Omaha's next F500.
They totally leased Tetrad's new building in AV, so they are thinking big growth...!

Both of those could very well grow to be Fortune 500.

Technically Pacific Life is domiciled in Omaha and it is #302. A stretch I know. But hey why not get technical if it spins things our way.
