The Onion/AV Club expands to Omaha!

Post by liquid »

Popular satirical news source The Onion is now being distributed weekly in Omaha and is seeking local advertisers for the new edition. They might open up a local chapter of the A.V. Club (top-notch film/music coverage/criticism) soon -- according to a guy named Ian, the local Account Executive.

Proof is at your local coffee shop and this new Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/avclubomaha.

Is it a local edition every week or would it be the same stories as other cities?  I just don't know much about The Onion's print side of things.

The Onion's content – ie fake, funny news – is the same across the country. Or at least I'd assume so. As for now Omaha's AV Club portion is only syndicated content as well. It covers major movie releases, has interviews with famous celebrities, CD reviews, etc. However it does offer local movie listings, which is nice. Other cities' AV Club covers local arts and entertainment, which Omaha's currently does not. I'm sure that could change in the near future though.

Other cities with The Onion AV Club:

Madison (where it originated)
Chicago
Washington DC
Denver/Boulder
Minneapolis/St. Paul
Austin
Milwaukee
New York City
Philadelphia

Thanks!  I had a hard time believing it would be specific to Omaha like the Dailyer Nebraskan for UNL.  Still cool news!

The AV Club portion will be Omaha specific from what I understand.

The Onion in Omaha

Post by Globochem »

It's been around a few weeks, but Omaha now gets hard copy Onion.  The local branch is owned by the OWH and should have plenty of autonomy.  It's great reading, and its satire is now the best writing in print in the metro!

I'm still trying to wrap myself around that statement.
