Looks like we are going to get a nice storm tomorrow!  Finally!

WOWT revised their snowfall map at 3pm and pushed the heavy stuff back towards the Omaha area.

I can't wait for some real snow! Here is the NWS map from 3:54pm. EDIT: Winter Storm Warning just issued for Omaha. I was wondering why they left us out half an hour ago.

6 inch expected snow fall is the cut off between a winter storm watch vs warning.  Omaha was on the bubble and so didnt get the warning till now.

I didn't get one.

My wife said all the phones in her office went off at the same time.

I loved that haha. Its crazy to think every person in the warning with a smartphone received one (if they have it turned on). My sister said her classroom went crazy because everyone received it at the same time.

Only newer cell phones are capable of receiving the alerts.

All the phones went off in our office too. At first I thought it was the fire alarm.

Speaking of technical glitches at WOWT, here's what was displayed when they were advertising their web channel.

OK I understand wanting a little snow for Christmas atmosphere.   But I don't understand saying Yippee for a big winter storm, unless you're a kid wanting a snow day, or you stand to make money from it (plowing contractor, auto body shop).  Winter storms hurt & kill people and destroy property.  Thousands of Omaha homes are dark and cold tonight and utility crews are working in very difficult conditions, often at risk of their own safety.   Pray that no one else gets hurt or killed as a result of this.

Well I don't really like snow, but I have to admit that the first big winter storm of the year is always exciting. Plus my boss let us all leave two and a half hours early yesterday so we could avoid the mess later.

Winter storm are natural.  We should have a few every year.  I would much rather see several winter storms and another January filled with warm dry days.  We are in a major drought, I hope we get about 25 more inches of snow this winter!

As long as a snow plow makes at least one pass within a reasonable time frame so I can get out of the neighborhood, I don't mind storms.

Its getting better.  The early models last week were showing 18"-24" here in Omaha and as much as 36" up by Sioux City.  The same model today is showing 8"-12"

I remember back in 2007-08, we were supposed to get like 10 inches of snow on a Friday night, but the storm shifted to the south and Omaha got nothing.

They keep pushing back the forecast...  First it was going to be late Wednesday night, then Thursday at 3am, not they are saying Thursday at 6am.

The latest National Weather Service Models are currently showing:

We have a 95% chance of receiving 4" or more
We have a 90% chance of receiving 6" or more
We have a 70% chance of receiving 8" or more
We have a 20% chance of receiving 12" or more
We have a 0% chance of receiving 18" or more

Nothing but a fresh dusting of salt on the streets by rush hour this a.m......

At least the kids are spared from breathing the salty dust. Poor kids...no snow to go sledding on their day off!

But it started snowing right before noon, so there's still hope!

2 inches as of 4 pm.  Another 4 or so expected this evening.  No big deal, but it sure sold a lot of booze, beer and bread.

Redditors...

Man with Horse Head Disrupts Weather Channel Shoot in Lincoln
The Weather Channel wasn't horsing around when it sent its top correspondent, Jim Cantore, to Nebraska on Thursday to experience an oncoming snowstorm.

But somebody wearing a horse head was.

While Cantore did a live report Thursday afternoon amid the wind-whipped snow at 10th and Q Streets in Lincoln, a man wearing a costume horse head walked into the background of the shot, waving and posing.

lmao! thats awesome. Ketv/Bill Randby was doing a live "question and answer" chat thing before the storm, wednesday, and I was asking ridiculously stupid questions, which turned out to be pretty funny.

Although, the amount of Omaha morons asking him for driving trips willl probably push him into retirement soon...

Nice to see that the main roads have already been cleared. It will probably take a week for the side streets to be cleared.. lol

I give the city an A+ on street cleanup.  Despite the fact it only reached 24 degrees this afternoon, many side streets and all of the main streets are bare pavement.  Bravo!
