Post by Brad »

For the third time in 14 months, the Hillsborough Apartment Complex is on fire... First two were from Cigarettes.

Judging by the damage, I'd bet that discarded smoking materials is the cause of this is one as well.

Does something about this place attract careless smokers?

More than belatedly, this complex has now banned smoking in and around all buildings. I'm not sure why it didn't do that a year ago. My mother's complex went non smoking about 10 years ago.

I'm not disregarding the smoking theory, but many apartments still have smoking, and have not had fires. They must have bad luck or the most irresponsible smokers. I am surprised that it is not a fire code as to not allow smoking in the first place in multi-unit complexes.

I know someone that just recently moved out. She said these apartments are horribly built and was not surprised how quickly they burnt down

Just a wild guess, but I bet they weren't BBQ-ing at 9:30 am in February.

But yes, the news reports have attributed the cause of the fire to "careless disposal of smoking material".

I hear people really enjoy smoking their houseplants in those little closets out on the deck.

I don't know this first hand; I heard it from a buddy who's brother overheard some delinquents talking about it at some store.
