OMG, nice find. So tragic. And look at that building that is across Dodge street from the Scottish Rites Hall on 20th! It's now a bland, one story law office of some kind... :(

Yeah sorry I got a new tablet and I am not sure how to post a facebook photo here from there. Usually I click on a photo and get the image address, but obviously it didn't copy the correct address.
This one should work:

Anyone else notice President Obama arrived at Offutt on a 747 but left on a 757 from Offutt? I haven't found an explanation, but haven't looked that hard either. All in all, it was an exciting day having him visit Omaha, although I had to just watch it from my computer screen. It was cool that he visited a home in a Papillion neighborhood and even greated some of the neighbors.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.

Obama's next stop is Baton Rouge which doesn't have a runway close by that would support the 747...

Ahh, that makes sense now. Maybe Ashford took the 747 back to D.C.? ....nah.

Whether you like this president or not, did anyone else find the wall-to-wall coverage of this presidential visit, by our esteemed local news professionals, a bit... How should I put this... F*cking stupid?

heck, they even had to relate the weather forecast to his visit "how will the weather be for Obama when he visits"?

Well, you know, it just don't matter because he felt the outside air about as long as it took him to ascend the stairs into his jet.

Sorry for the rant, but our local news is abysmal. Channel 6, im looking at you.

In case anyone wants to see a few pictures I took today and would like to read my thoughts on the President's visit, here is a blog post on the subject. Politics aside, today was UNO's finest hour...

I kind of agree, but I put it all in the Bill Randby Syndrone.
What happens when you give local anchors/reporters unlimited air time?
Did they not start live reporting hours before Obsma landed? And kept going till Air Force One took off?
It just reminded me of how Randby goes to town when he also gets unlimited air time during a storm...:

I don't remember which agency, but one of their reporters hid in the bushes to get a glimpse of the motorcade. My guess is that they would have been fine standing out in the open.

My son got a 27 on his ACT. No this score is not as high as what Jeff's son achieved. But one has to remember the paternal gene-pool my son has to overcome. On a PGPAB [Paternal Gene-Pool Adjusted Basis], my son's score is a 37 and Jeff's son's PGPAB ACT score is 19.

Doubt it. They don't usually fly into Eppley.
I kind of assumed it was related. All I know is they changed my flight on short notice and I spent 3 hours in the {expletive} Denver airport and got in very late. Then back out tomorrow.

I understand that it might have been a bit much, but I admit that I watched the whole thing and enjoyed most of it. You could switch to KMTV when tired of the president's visit.

It was fine...no need to make a big deal about a news station covering legitimate news. Would you rather watch the |expletive| that's on tv in the day?

Also, is it really necessary for the word 'cr*p' to be marked as an expletive? Little overkill with the censoring lol

Well that's at least a plus, if you actually enjoyed it.

Just seems like every single "big" story is rehashed over and over and over and over and over and... You get the point.

Annoying

Yes, it is true that I and most of the people in my other social circles (birds of a feather flock together) have real difficulties with the ideas this man represents and have serious concerns about what these ideas portend for the future of our country. But those who know me also know I don't take myself too seriously. There are three or four folks on the site who know 1) my comments would be a lot worse if I wasn't holding way back; 2) I am poking fun at myself too since this guy and many of his ideas frustrate me so and 3) yes, I am ornery enough to stir the pot once in awhile a little bit too.

So in the spirit of opinion diversity I hope you can allow me a comment or a hint as to how I really feel every three or four years or so. For every one that leaks out when it comes to the things we don't share in common, I have held back about 35,000 - 40,000 other times. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating the number a bit. But probably not by much. Ha!

I don’t think any of you realize it or mean to offend. But man over the years some of the comments made on this board just really attack many of the values, places and people I hold dear. And that's fine. I understand it's a discussion board. But yes, sometimes it is difficult when everybody is calling your babies ugly.

So let me ask, who do I send the check to for this psychoanalysis session? For those of you who enjoyed seeing your President, glad you had a great day and event.

If I can give you a piece of advice: relax.

He's gone in less than a year, anyway.

That said, and I don't want to get too political here, but I don't understand how one could be overly dissatisfied with Barack Obama, and not share those same convictions for GWB?

Yeah, I think Obama is a fairly divisive president, and has fed into partisan politics as much as anyone could, but there is no f'ing way a person could honestly say GWB outperformed Obama.

Our congressional politics are pretty muddled up lately, and by extension, I think just about anyone elected into the Oval Office, is going to struggle.

I think I am fairly relaxed. I was not satisfied with GWB either but for way different reasons than my concerns with BHO. And yes, BHO will end his term in one year. However, the electorate that felt it wise to elect him twice will be voting in the next election and the ones to follow. Our culture has been trending in the wrong direction, by my compass, for the last 50 years. I am not eloquent enough to state concisely and clearly what I mean. And even if I could, most on this board would not care, would not agree or be offended. I might want to stir the pot a little bit once in awhile. But my intent is not to just constantly offend folks or start arguments where no one is going to change any minds.

I like the Econ dev duscussions, the forum get-togethers, the gossip, the restaurant banter, etc. But we're all political animals too and our colors shine through. And it just so happens a lot of the stuff I believe in, the people I believe in, some of the things about Nebraska that I take pride in get bashed and ridiculed along the way here. An arrow here. A snide remark there. That's again fine. I just have to take it along with the things about the site and our eomaha community that I cherish. And for the most part I do. I used to comment a lot years ago. And really I would like to still do that. But it became evident some time ago that opinions like mine are really not appreciated here or at least not understood. This is fine. If I commented more, I wouldn't be happy and a lot of the group wouldn't be happy. And yes, sometimes it's frustrating on several levels to have to keep my yap shut. But it's best. I have other social groups where we all chew the fat and can't figure for the life of how anyone could hold viewpoints different from us. So yes I am relaxed. I get it.

But if these three little tongue-in-cheek one line remarks above are causing anyone undue concern, I am not sure if I am the one who needs to relax. In politics and religion, I don't agree with a lot of what I hear here. But I still think you're all fine and well-intentioned people . . . Just like I am sure you feel about me. See that last little clause is my weird sense of humor sneaking in there again. So there is the final evidence. I should read more and post less. Everyone goes home happy.

In other news, which of you have taken my advice and purchased a takeout pie from Big Fred's, socked it in the refrigerator overnight and feasted on big bold slices of Heaven the next morning. You know you've been wanting to.

I can honestly say guy, I probably would disagree with you on most everything, but it also can make you more interesting to talk to if you open up.

When I attended Central High I was in JROTC and I had a retired LTC who taught the class who was interested in politics. I was 18 in 2008, and every day I had class I'd stay after and debate my teacher on the pros and cons of liberal v conservative til my brain melted. But what grew between us wasn't animus, or hatred. It was respect. We argued with facts, made the other cite their sources, and kept on policy matters. It made politics seem engaging. And I follow politics closely to this day because of that experience.

If you don't want to banter back and forth with people here on politics, no one is blaming you. But I hope you'll speak your mind. We all benefit when we see perspectives different from our own. I'd like to hear yours, even if it peeves me off.

I'd also echo what Adam said.

But if someone, liberal or conservative, wants to belligerently argue their fringe, partisan politics with me, I'm not putting up with it

The last two administrations have taught us the lesson that the Whitehouse is not were you wear a trainee hat to work. Both GwB and Obama have been below average in their jobs. Both let their lunatic fringe go to the extreme and damage our country. Bush with the wars and Obama with gun control and health care. We ended up with bad policy and po'd and sincerely divided population.
