Another sign that Omaha is a growing and thriving metro area..
From today's W-H:
'Gross metro product reflects mostly business and household income and is a reasonable estimate of the overall economic activity, said Scott Strain, senior research director for the chamber and a former economist with First National Bank of Omaha.
And the number is going up, according to the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, which today predicts an increase between 4 percent and 4.5 percent in the Omaha area's gross metro product in 2006, slightly faster than this year's growth rate.
"Omaha continues to benefit from a well-diversified economy that tends to grow without the boom-bust cycles that typify other metro areas," Strain says in a report to be served along with lunch today to about 670 people at the chamber's Economic Outlook Luncheon at the Qwest Center Omaha
In Omaha, the number of jobs is up about 1.5 percent from 2004 to about 450,000
Strain's report said Omaha's job growth rate has outpaced the nation since 2001 and is mostly from private industry. Omaha-area businesses added 6,800 jobs in the 12 months that ended in September, while the number of government jobs was flat.'..

Re: Omaha's GMP-Gross Metro Product
Reviving a very old thread started by yours truly back in 2005, I thought it would be nice to post the newly updated numbers for 2021 and see where Omaha ranks in GMP (Gross Metropolitan Product)-
From the latest report-
Omaha ranks #50 in GMP at $77.9 Billion Just one notch behind Oklahoma City and 2 notches behind New Orleans who come in at #49 and #48 respectively. Omaha ranks just ahead of Buffalo NY (#51) and also ahead of peer metros such as Grand Rapids MI, Albuquerque NM, Tucson AZ and Tulsa OK..
Impressive performance for the Omaha metro as it continues to grow and shine..

Re: Omaha's GMP-Gross Metro Product
Great info. Although it looks like we doing great, I'm concerned by the gap with OKC widening. 5.3 billion gap in 2020, and nearly 10 billion in 2023? With the big O out growing (percentage) over the last previous decade (Not sure right now) that seems odd.Omaha Cowboy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 3:05 pm Reviving a very old thread started by yours truly back in 2005, I thought it would be nice to post the newly updated numbers for 2021 and see where Omaha ranks in GMP (Gross Metropolitan Product)-

BUT! We have so much good happening right now, we could easily see that swing the other way. We are outpacing Buffalo for at least.
And we are near double a lot of our close "peer cities". Like Colorado Springs.

Omaha is doing great. And should continue to do so. Omaha punches above its weight overall, so it’s ranking in GMP is a great indicator that trend will continue…Athomsfere wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 3:28 pmGreat info.
