United Airlines inflight magazine to feature Omaha in May

Post by Asten »

BIG, BIG win here. 32 pages is huge, and this will have a LOT of eyes on it.
Omaha Chamber of Commerce wrote: he Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Omaha Convention & Visitors Bureau have again teamed to promote business and tourism in Omaha through this special 32+ page editorial section called “Insight: Omaha.” It is expected to reach 1.8 million readers traveling to 201 destinations in 26 countries during the peak travel month of May. The section will showcase Omaha as a great place to live, work and visit through articles and photos of Omaha’s numerous recent success stories.

Hemispheres Magazine selected Omaha because they recognized the exuberance and vitality that has enlivened the entire community. They are also aware of the recent increasing national attention that new investment and growth has brought to our city.

GREAT NEWS....Can't wait to see it !!

Here's where some of the great photographer's on this forum need to step up and offer some images from their collections. This type of 'publication opportunity' is an example of where I've mentioned that I've seen photos that don't really stack up with what I've seen some members post or use as 'signatures'!!! (ie: the1wags & streetsofomaha)

And every time I see it I am more and more amazed at how he captured so much light. I wish downtown was really that visible at night.

From the W-H story link Jake provided:

'The reason for the disparity: Low-fare carrier Southwest Airlines began nonstop service from Kansas City to Dallas in mid-December. American Airlines lowered its K.C.-Dallas fares in response.

American Airlines offers Eppley's only nonstop service to Dallas. Southwest serves Omaha, too, but is prohibited by a law known as the Wright Amendment from flying nonstop to its home base at Dallas Love Field from all but eight states.

Passed in 1979, the law was created to aid the then-new Dallas-Fort Worth airport, where American is based. That airport since has grown into one of the world's busiest.

Missouri became the eighth state exempted from the Wright Amendment last fall, thanks to an amendment added to a transportation bill. Southwest began flights from both Kansas City and St. Louis in mid-December..'..

That @&*$$# Wright Amendment..It needs to be completely BOOTED from civilization  ..

Looks to me like that law could very easily be overturned with even the THREAT of an anti-trust/market manipulation lawsuit?

I'm really excited about this Hemispheres Magazine thing.

Anytime I fly on an airline, I'm always impressed and jeolous of the features of other cities, ESPECIALLY United, since Hemispheres appears to be a really well done publication.

I will definitely see if I can get some photos into this. In fact, this might just be the inspiration I need to get out there and get some new, high-def shots.

This announcement is pretty exciting. Free advertising for Omaha all over the world just in time for round two of our incredible Downtown/riverfront redevelopment.

Cool stuff. :D

Typically, when the magazine profiles a city, the chamber of commerce gets a 70 percent increase in calls from people who want to come visit a city, Mitchem said.

Yeah, but it's WAY too wide for a .sig. On a 1024x768 machine (laptop), it causes the entire forum page to be too wide to fit, causing it to scroll horizontally to read posts. It's pretty, but knock it down a bit sizewise, please! :)

Personally I rather like the longer signatures. But you have a good point there Asten. It also depends on the settings of your display too.

I have seen the finished product of the May HEMISPHERES magazine and it is pretty sweet. They actually have 54 pages devoted to Omaha and really did a class act of selling the city. This is going to bring some great publicity to Omaha.

Lol Adam..

I just read/scanned through the entire 28 page piece..

This is one of, if not THE best, pieces of Omaha promotion/information I have ever read..The skyline picture is DYNAMIC and Omaha is painted as a cosmopolitan jewel in the midwest (not that we didn't know that already :) ) ..

You can't help but feel pumped to be an Omahan after reading this piece..

BRAVO Hemispheres Magazine!..

Fantastic.

I WANT A HARD COPY!!!!

And that skyline view NEEDS to be a postcard!

I was hoping for more focus on all the residential development downtown, especially Wallstreet Tower, but I did see an add for Riverfront Place.

Anyway, Really Awesome!

Yeah, I'd love a hardcopy as well.

Someone should try and secure 25 or so, they'd make lovely parting gifts for a forum meet!
