Lights In Place
WOWT wrote:Omaha's commemoration of the fifth anniversary of 9/11 will be marked by two beams of light shining into the night sky behind the Woodmen Tower. Sunday, workers put those lights in place.

Thanks, I still need to take it in to photo shop and remove some of the pink that I usually get when there is a very low "celing" like tonight.

reminds me of the beams of light from the movie independence day right before the buildings are destroyed. Very cool pictures though.

I can barely make out the faint light beams from my roof patio at 60th St. I wonder how much stronger the ones in NYC were.

There is also a lot of humidity in the air tonight (which made the lights look somewhat dull), these lights will look fantastic on a nice crisp, clear night!

It is Harrah's. We were right by the big "HARRAH'S" sign on the roof. It was awesome.

When I was at home tweaking with my pics the light did look like it was 'abducting' the Woodmen.

Nice Josh!

I went by to look at the lights themselves this afternoon. They were smaller than I thought.

I'll probably have some of mine up tomorrow. They are still cloudy ones. I would have got some tonight but Nip/Tuck was on.

I overexposed these a bit to pick up the beams.

Nice, but I think I like last nights cloud effect better (and I love your reflective sculpture view Mark!)... more in keeping with the 'mood' as well.

Also the flags are blowing off in the wind. The one on the westside is is hanging by one side and the eastern one seems to be blowing off too. I saw it when I was leaving work.

A pity...

Post by johnnyc »

It's a pity this happened.

This is a look from our skycam... It's around 5:30 Thursday.

I think they'll probably take them down tonight when the breeze dies down, because tomorrow it should be even windier (more windy?).

Woodmen Collecting Signatures; Removing Flag
KETV wrote:Woodmen of the World hopes to collect 10,000 signatures locally to send to New York City in support of Sept. 11, 2001 victims, but weather will force the insurer to remove the large flag hanging on the side of its building.

Woodmen also said it will remove the 50-foot by 100-foot flags on the east and west sides of the Woodmen Tower on Thursday because of damage caused by wind. Since the flags might not be repairable, and out of respect to the flag, it was determined that the flags should be taken down early, Woodmen said in a news release.
